Hand Guard Options

What exactly would I have to do and what would it cost me?

This is an entirely new thread that you are asking about. This discussion can be found all over the interweb.
Basically you have to find out if it is legal to own an SBR in your state. If not, your question is answered. If your state allows it, you fill out an application, get fingerprints, background check, Chief Law enforcement signature, send it to the ATF with $200 and wait 4-6 months for an approval. Then comes the cost of the conversion. Do a little more research...

Scooter, lee us know if you have any questions about the conversion. I had mine set up with a carbine length moe, a mid-length moe and now have a vltor casv-el on it.

Okay guys, time for some pictures and an update, I had done some research on this prior. It looked pretty cool and I was thinking of what I could do to make it look different then all the ones I've seen out there, I really dig the SBR look. I received some parts from Tacticool22 and other various sources for this conversion, It is a slow process for me but it is going well, here are some pictures below.

I had to make my own extension for this because I didn't know that it would be so short but I managed to break the barrel nut free.

I used a triangle handguard end cap and dremeled out the center so it would fit snug on the break..so far so good.

I will be cutting the barrel down to 14 or so and pinning the break on with the end cap on it so that the moe handguard will fit and not move since I am not using a FSB, I have tested it out and it works/feels nice.

I have it laid out as to what it would look like, I am getting the whole rifle hydro dipped in multicam.

Make sure that the flash hider is pinned/welded properly. You don't want a trip to Club Fed because it was <16 inches or wasn't permanent. That is one long handguard.

It's getting professionally done, it should be exactly 16 when its pinned.

That looks great, post pics once she's all done!

AFWhirlybird,

I too replaced the stock handguard on my 15-22. I decided to make it look like my AR15. I used the following components:

1) Tacticool22 15-22 barrel nut wrench
2) Tacticool22 15-22 handguard adapter
3) Tacticool22 15-22 vise jaws
4) AR15 Delta Ring Assembly with barrel nut
5) Magpul MOE Midlength handguards
6) AR15 handguard cap
7) True Shot Technolgies 15-22 AR style front sight assembly with the gas port tapped and threaded to accept a machine screw to hold the handguard cap in place

It looks like a huge condom.

Yeah, I think I saw on Magpul's site that they were selling fde Tactical Phallus Covers. They come in rifle, carbine, sbr and derringer.

Scootr, you are the only one that has to be happy with your rifle. If it is comfortable and functional and you like it, it doesn't matter what I, or anyone else, think about it. Build it, shoot it and have fun with it.

Agreed, I was just surprised at the comment. I am looking forward to putting it back together and shooting it, it's been too long!
