My Smith & Wesson collecting days are over. Or so I thought.

I was in there mainly to pick up some ammo. Waked over to the edge of the display wall to look at a .22 rifle when I saw the following hanging on the wall. I immedidately knew that it was old and desireable so I took a look. Obviously the grips were not the orginal, but still...

A S&W K-22 Outdoorsman, serial no. 665,xxx. In pretty good shape. As I was admiring it, the guy helping out behind the counter said, "It came with this box. Probably 1950's?"

Not quite. Now I knew I had something special. The box was pushed in on one end, but otherwise fair shape. Anything else.

"It came with this box of things. There are another pair of grips inside but they look too small and they are not numbered."

Well, he's been wrong so far. There were two full 50-round boxes of J. C. Higgins .22lr. AND a screw driver.

Checked out the grips and, you guessed it, they appear to be the original grips AND they are numbered to the gun. Here is the old girl as she came from the factory still in about 90% condition except for a few blemishes here and there.

And all for $275 OTD.

Jackpot! Wow, that is one of my dream guns that I never expect to touch let alone own. Great job sir, go buy a lottery ticket its your lucky day.

Consider you paid about 1/3 the current cost of the SAT, and they threw in the gun and box (and extra stocks, and ammo) for free :) .

However, I pity the poor soul who turned in this one to your dealer - I can only imagine what they got for it :( .

You stole it. That revolver, with that style rear sight and no rib, is pre-WWII. If nothing else the fact that the serial number has no letter prefix is a definite indicator of being pre-war. All post-war guns include a letter prefix in the SN. Also, after the war it became the K-22 and was no longer called the Outdoorsman.

I don't know why you think the stocks are original, they are definitely post-war, probably 1950s.

Either you're deep in REM sleep dreaming that we are reading this. Or all of us are deep in REM sleep dreaming you paid $275 for this.

Dang, good find. Congrats.

People like you make...me......sick! Just kidding, great find! How can ANY gunshop not know its worth at least $350!
