Gun Owners of America

Thursday, July 15, 2010

Gun Owners of America is backing Sharron Angle in the United States Senate race in Nevada, and we have compiled a list of 42 reasons why Harry Reid MUST be defeated.

This is one of the top races in the country and one WE MUST WIN! If any gun owner or sportsman has any doubt if Reid is pro-gun or anti-gun, just read the 42 Reasons to Defeat Reid, then decide.

Harry Reid will spend $25 million in his campaign to try and defeat Sharron Angle. I urge every pro-gun American to send Sharron Angle $25. If 1 million pro-gunners across the country do this, she will match Reid's campaign war chest and WE WILL WIN!

So please, click Sharron Angle for U.S. Senate | Official Site and click on "donate" to make a contribution.

NOTHING AMERICANS DO IN THIS ELECTION WILL SEND A BIGGER MESSAGE TO THE RADICAL LEFTIST ANTI-GUNNERS IN THE CONGRESS THAN TO DEFEAT HARRY REID, THE SENATE MAJORITY LEADER!

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,

Tim Macy
Vice Chairman

NRA is still non-committal. I'll bet they have gotten a boatload of email from members after news broke that were considering such an endorsement.

The note I got back from the NRA about Reid seems to strongly indicate they believe he's the lesser of the potential evils of Schumer and Durbin. It also seems like they want to support Reid. Personally, I think they should do themselves a favor and not endorse anyone. The people in NV will get rid of Reid. If the NRA comes in on his side, it will alienate a whole bunch of their members.
I can see what they're saying, but if more pro-gun people were in the senate, they'd have opportunities to block anti-gun legislation.
They've been a great force in protecting firearms rights, I just think they should stay out of this particular mine field.

I can't imagine ANYONE worse than Sen Schumer as Senate Majority Leader.
He would have an "anti-gun bill of the week."

I hope NRA-ILA will not endose anyone in the NV race, just give the ratings.

Any pro-gun organization that, given the consequences of Reid's defeat, considers this race "one of the top races in the country" is sorely misguided. I don't like Reid, and I would like to see him gone under the right circumstances. These are not the right circumstances. I would hate to see my money spent in an effort to defeat a Senator when his defeat would almost assure that more anti-gun legislation will reach the Senate floor. Fact; as long as Reid is Majority Leader, no anti-gun legislation will reach the full Senate. If Durbin or Schumer becomes Majority Leader, such legislation will assuredly be voted on in the full Senate.

At this juncture, there are better places, different races where GOA could spend its money and better help the pro-gun agenda.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ See above. Like Forrest says "that's all I have to say about that".

I have an intense dislike of Reid and hope that the NRA will only grade the candidates and not endorse his reelection.
Regardless of the NRA’s endorsement the future looks bleak for Reid. Durbin or Schumer will be a disaster, but under present handicapping one of them seems likely to be the new majority leader.
That being the case I don’t see where a lot of NRA effort in support of Reid is going to do us any good.

The Durbin-Schumer race for Majority Leader is not a sure thing, the senate democrats are intensely political, and Reid was picked as a compromise because the strong men could not agree. Let us hope that the shoot-out results in a dark horse winner. The Dems may want a more soothing figure given that the chamber should be much closer to 50-50 and they will have a tough year in 2012 with many seats to protect.

Be careful what you wish for.

Goodbye Harry Reid = Hello Senate Leader Schumer... Now that is scary...

Harry was able to get many pro 2A bills up for vote. Some passed (Natl Parks carry), and some failed (interstate reciprocity).

Harry has a pretty decent (not perfect) record on 2A issues.

Reid recognizes, I suppose that a anti-gun stance is a loser in NV. But my world does not end at the 2nd Amendment.
In other respects Reid is in my view unacceptable. The Polisi-Reid/Obamacare bill is another way to regulate your life and conduct.

But, I will not be voting in NV---I hope those who do throw him out!

A real conundrum isn't it. Back Reid because he has been forced to back some pro gun legislation. In doing so sell out the belief in freedom. The real answer is, only the good citizens of Nevada will make that choice. Having lived in Northern Nv. I can tell you they don't like Reid, they don't like the BLM and they don't think like Las Vegas. I might add Las Vegas's influence is waning along with their economy..Lets just let the people in Nevada make the choice. I think the NRA would do well to just stay out of it. I think they would lose influence in 80% of the state if they make a concerted effort to help Reid...Set this one out!!!

Here is one gun loving Nevadan that will vote against Harry Reid every time that I can. Harry supported and aided Clark County in getting a County Shooting Park going. He was a carpetbagger as far as I could see. He jumped on the obvious bandwagon only to appear as a gun loving sportsman. Nothing could be further from the truth in my humble opinion. The Shooting Park would have happened without his help, just taking a little longer. I have known Harry since High School. I am sorely disappointed in him. Just as O'bummer doesn't represent the USA, Harry doesn't represent Nevada. .......... Big Cholla

I live and vote in Nevada and there is no way I'll vote for an intolerant religious zealot like Angle. She seems to put her religious views ahead of the Constitution and has no problem with government endorsing religion or government enforcing her interpretation of the Bible. That may sound good to many of you, but not me.

It's the closed minded intolerance that does more harm than good. She promotes herself by dividing and promoting intolerance.

In Nevada there often seems to be candidates that look good at first glance or good if you hate the incumbent, but when it comes down to what's right for Nevadans, it's better to look at the bigger picture and not just a few hot button issues used to divide. Plus it really bothers me when other states try to influence what we do here.

We are not going to stand by and allow this state or the country to turn into a theocracy.

Sounds like the good people may be between a rock and a hard spot! As for me, I'm voting against most, if not all incumbents. I consider myself guilty for allowing them to put us in the jam we're in. Never again!

ENGINE18,

I like your way of thinking! Taking responsibility instead of just blaming and bluster. Thank you.

It really helps to tone it down a bit and put some thought into decisions.

The NRA sent me a renewal plea several months before it was actually due so I called them and told them I thought I'd wait and see who they endorsed out there. If they endorse Harry, GOA will have one new member and the NRA will be one short.

Since I can't vote for or against him anyway I guess it doesn't matter but if you who do have a voice in this one think he can be trusted to defend the 2nd Ammendment, have at it. He hasn't done squat to defend any other part of the Constitution in the last (however many years he's been there).

Sounds like everyone is assuming the Senate Majority leader will be a Democrat.

Could be, Chuck U. will be in the minority party!!

Looking at this without taking sides but seeing the whole picture, Reid may be the one to endorse.

Consider that if Reid loses and the Dems retain control of the Senate, do you really want either Schummer or Durbin, both of which are hard shelled anti gun and they want to push the agenda.

If Reid wins, he has helped gun owners with several pieces of Legislation and he knows the spot he is in with the current election. He would not want to endanger that position by voting against gun legislation for future elections

If the Dems lose control, which is unlikely, then it is all a moot point other than the Senate Minority Leader would most likely be Schummer and he would certainly push other Dems to vote anti gun.

"Unlikely, Yes----Impossible, No

I don't think people have the full concept of "Incumbent Fever" that our country is developing at this moment.
