has anyone lost the front sight white insert??

On the new SHIELD I after a few rounds that darn thing fell off. The sight is in place but the white dot insert is gone. The boys had a hard time with the slide not going into battery sometimes and had to push the slide forward even after 150 rounds when reloading.

I dont understand why the spring for the SHIELD magazines are so long. Out of my 3 compact guns PPS and Bersa BP9CC the SHIELD mazazine is the widest and has the longest and tickest gauge spring. With the PPS being the smallest of them all with the same capacity in rounds.

This stiffness and the rounds pushing up so hard against the slide is contributing to the slide not going into battery. The PPS for examble has the area under the slide directly where the rounds touch, machined higher than the SHIELD.

Seems like others have said they lost one of the dots. The Shield seems to be very tight in many ways and the mags are something else to be sure. I'm leaving my 7rd loaded with 6 to break it in some while just sitting around. The battery thing as you know is another story.

I would think that S&W has had enough experience with this by now to tackle this problem. It's been an issue with the M&P line ever since they came out.

Just what is the deal, S&W???? Surely a little white dot cannot be THAT hard of a fix -- especially on new guns after the old ones exhibited the problem.

FYI, I have seen people post about issues with this on their M&P's on several forums, including this one, 1911forum, mdshooters, thefiringline, and at least one more I cannot recall the name of.

I know about the battery issue and I have been working on it. On my SHIELD yesterday morning before heading to the range I removed the extractor where I think part of the issue is and noticed that the extractor on the sides had blueing material removed as you could bee where it rubbed off and some rough spots from the cast so I polished the sides, it was also very filthy. Since I got some factory springs on the way and they should be now in my POBOX, I cut 1/2 a coil from the spring and reassembled. I solved the battery issue without the magazine in place but with the magazine in place it still there still some issue.

I dont want to open up a can of worms here as other post were closed, I am just trying to find the solution to this issue that even tho is minor I want to resolve.

Comparing the SHIELD to my other Compact CC I noticed that the SHIELD vs THE PPS has a softer recoil spring, stiffer magazine spring and stiffer extractor spring. All IMO are contributing to the battery issue. Please dont post anything negative about my findings and concerns if you dont care to hear about them please move on. I am investing my time and money to address the concern that I and some others may have

FYI I cut another 1/2 coil and it got much better, I just need to go to the range to confirm that I will not have any FTE. There is a sweet spot and just got to find it. Any changes that I am making to my SHIELD can be retro by replacing the parts so I am not concern about screwing up. The cost of this springs are just a dollar or so . I ordered several striker block springs as I cut mine to about .500 and now my trigger pull is Butter Soft and want to get another pound by replacing it. Most likely i will use that spring on my other shield which I did not altered the trugger pull but the trigger reset and stricker block only.

Shielded go shoot it. You are going to love it. I am back at the range after many years of no activity and have purchased several guns lately. Just love that SHIELD. I think is a great gun, FROM 1 -10 its a 9 for me. Just need to fine tune it for your own preferences.

my fs9 front dot fell out within 400 rounds-whit scratch and fix pen from auto section of department store and it actually is a little brighter than the rear two so it turned out great

this is a curse on all m&ps but **** it easy fix

Just fyi springs dont wear with staying compressed, they wear with cycles. If you want to break it in unload and reload it a bunch

White paint (or the color of your choice) and a tooth pick - two minute job.

Yeah i filled my sight dots in with some crazy color nail polish from my wifes salon. I would call it ansi yellow. Looks like highway worker hi-viz safety vest yellow. Im looking for some cheap trijicon's.

my FS45 front fell out this weekend also. i just used automotive touch up paint from autozone and it looks better than factory. disturbing at first but a 30 second fix that im happy with. i also applied a smalldrop of clear coat over it for protection. i tried cleaning it off and nothing seems to effect it at all so im happy again.

Out of many firearms none have exhibited this behavior other than my cousin's M&P9c. It has not happened to my Shield yet. While I acknowledge that it may be common for M&P's, this is by no means normal or acceptable.

I had a SA XD9 lose the front sight dot,replaced it with appliance epoxy touch up paint applied with the tip of a tooth pick.

M&P I regularly shoot has not had this problem yet.

Just thicks me off that it happen on a brand new SHIELD with just a few rounds. The time I spen with my boys at the range once a week means a lot to me. I think I am going for another DAWSON front fiberoptic sight. I know its not hard to fix but not where I was. I hope my trigger doesn't fall off next..

It is definitely a problem with the M&P line. My full size 9 still has the dot, but I havent shot it near as much as the 9c, which is missing the front sight dot. I used this as an excuse to have night sights installed My wife is even paying for most of it. Now I just need the dot in my Shield to go away so I can get some TFO's

I respect your opinion, but it suggests to me that S&W has a large batch of sites it's just trying to get out the door and is penny-pinching by only fixing the ones that come back with issues (many, unfortunately) rather than dealing with the problem on a whole. They probably figure people will just do what you do.

Sadly, it just looks bad.

I touched up the front dot on four pistols last week. They were all dark from carbon and cleaning chemicals. None of the four have ever lost their dot. I view a touch-up every couple of thousand rounds simple maintenance.

Any of the gun companies could glue a white plastic dot in place at an added price. It would still get dark from carbon and cleaning chemicals.
