Has S&W corrected the Shield sight dot issue?

Agreed. And I really don't see the need for a new thread about it every other day. Paint it and go shoot!

Yep, but the newbies just dont understand that. And most dont realize that people are likely to change the sights out anyways.

Look at all the guys who are changing the sights out on the XDS. And IMO, the XDS already has some of the best factory installed sights. Crazies i tell ya.

I put a dot of super glue in/on the sight dots before they fell off and they are still intact on my shield 9 with hundred of rounds through it.

I am the original poster, I didnt lose a dot. My thread was more of a S&W customer service question / statement. If it's something you have read already? Pass it by?

If the dots would only fall out of the rear sight, it would be an improvement. It's always the front.

My sights on the shield are still there..have bought a Sig and a Beretta where one had a rear sight dot missing paint in the middle of the dot and the other one with a watered down white paint in both front and rear sights...bought them both anyway because a little dab of white paint to touch them up was not really a big deal...liked them better the way I did it any way

The way guys take these things apart and dissect them, you would think replacing a spot of paint would not be a big deal - and can be done quicker than the time it takes to fuss about it...

LOL there would no need for forums then? Party pooper!! ( SMILE )

My next door neighbor had one of the rear sight dots come out of the rear sight a couple of months ago after less than 100 rounds... he called S&W and they sent him new sights no problem. Of course, if they're the same sights, the same thing will happen again- and again- and again! Should be a simple fix.. for THEM! I'm shopping aftermarket sights for mine.

my front dot fell out today. reading this, i think i am going to call S&W tomorrow to see if i can get a replacement sent, but also buy some aftermarket sights.

Lmao....very true.

I thought my front dot feel out or at least part of it did after the 1st 300 rounds though it. Then when cleaning the gun I realized that it just had needed to be cleaned. A little Rem Oil wipe on the end of a punch and its the same as it was when I pulled it out of the box from S&W the first time.

On mine, one day I noticed one of the rear sight dots missing, out came the "liquid paper", fixed. A few days later I was shooting and actually saw the front dot come out and I watched it flutter to the ground:rolleyes: (no I didn't try to glue it back in). Out came the liquid paper again. Couple of weeks later the other rear dot came up missing and I fixed it with liquid paper again (I now keep a bottle in my range bag). But the dots haven't fallen out since I painted them with liquid paper. I'm just waiting for the dots on my new CORE to start falling out. Maybe Smith should use liquid paper instead of whatever it is they use. :D

Why doesn't S&W start offering night sights on their guns from the factory like other manufacturers so those that choose can avoid this problem without having to buy sights later and go through the hassle of having them installed?

It just behooves me that S&W knows this is an issue albeit a small one that is probably easily corrected at little cost and does NOTHING? Really? Are we as consumers just supposed accept poor craftsmanship and pay top dollar for it and then go on about our business? I know it's petty but it swings both ways as it's not a huge deal to expect them to at least get this part right. JMHO, carry on!! John

First, S&W does not paint their own sights (buy them already done).

Second, all self-defense guns SHOULD have Tritium sights. So think of it as GOD's way of telling you to put better sights on your gun!
