It might just be me but the logo looks to be in the wrong place...it's too far up to my eyes. To be honest it looks photoshopped...the angle looks off but maybe it's too early here and the coffee hasn't kicked in yet (either that or maybe the rum hasn't worn off yet).

Good eye to all who caught the square butt...

To the best of my knowledge, not a factory revolver but a well made up hybrid. At least that's what I have always assumed.

It doesn't have the gap between the front edge of the rear sight leaf and the sight ramp at the frame end of the barrel that I've seen on other conversions.

Here's one that another forum member has posted in the past. You can see the gap I mentioned.
Whoever did mine took the care to replace the rear sight leaf with one from a snubby to eliminate the gap....or could it be factory? Without the box with a product code, how could you tell?

I must confess that prior to reading it in this thread I was unaware that S&W ever produced a Model 19 2.5" with a square butt.

Cat, I believe you're correct in it not being a factory job. I had a -4 like yours, and hoping for a rarity I had it lettered. Nope, it was converted. Note the difference with other snubs in the frame at the top just behind the barrel (above and in front of the pin). It looks like whoever converted yours changed the rear sight, but the frame is not a "normal" snubby 19 frame.

I'm not an expert by a long shot, but I'd be leery of it's originality unless it lettered as coming from the factory like this. S&W did lots of things that weren't catalogued, so it's a tough call sometimes.

Still, it's a neat gun, and I sometimes wish I hadn't sold mine. It put me over the top on buying a 4" nickel 27-2, so it doesn't hurt too bad.

Thanks, Hoot, for the info. I'd always just assumed it was a "hybrid".

Not a big enough issue to me to letter but I've always thought it to be a very "stylish" novelty...think I'll hang on to it.

I'd love to hear more (and see some pics of examples) of the SB 2.5" barreled Model 19s.

And, just to stay on topic...
