This County we are in Florida. Its been a long battel with the county we live (rural northern central) .My neighbors on one side have had a condemend home that the county has let them live in for over 9 years. We when we bought our home and land year and half ago knew it was a real rough home next to ours. But we have about an acere between us. The county finally evicted the owners of property friday evening. Power company killed power to it monday morning. Here is kicker these low life folks to max.Left their 8 dogs that are chained up outside stay on the property. Here is the kicker no power or water but being the home owners are homsteaded. The animals can stay pretty much for ever. The owners can only be on property on day light hours to get their stuff. Then its illegal to be there.I have called safe pet shelters that would take the animals but owners wont give them up. Got a call into P E T A no answer yet. I have called all powers to be at county level. They all could care less that animals chained on condem property. Ugg to say the least. Its heart breaking.

With the cover of dark head on over there with bolt cutters and free the animals, or for that matter head on over there now and set them free and set up a big bowl of food and water and I bet they won’t go anywhere until animal control gets there.....there are ways..

Thats the heart breaking thing. Animal control cant tough them. I can't feed them beacause I would be arrested. I had the # 2 in command from Sherrif office come out and see me personaly after I had called and pleaded to See Sherrif personally. # 2 was very poliet and sympathetic but said laws are clear. He also dealt with those residents pretty much weekly or more for 10 years

Those sound like some ridiculous laws.....here in Texas if the animals are not cared for and are in distress, unfed or unwatered animal control can come and take custody of the animals.....we see it all the time with horses around here that people can’t afford to feed anymore........how is the sheriff going to know you did it.....like I said the cover of dark and a look out and you are good to go.......Tell that sheriff you are going support his opponent next election. Those animals can be removed if the conditions are intolerable. I can’t imagine that Florida is more ***-backwards than rural Texas.

I live in central FL and the AC folks would be there rather quickly taking them away whether or not the owners wanted them gone; THEN they would have them arrested and brought up on charges.

If your county AC won't do anything, a call to your local newspaper and TV stations will...... ;)

I know someone who jumped a fence with bolt cutters, took the poor dog and confronted the owner. After some words the owner backed off. Not saying it was legally the right thing to do nor am I telling you to do it

With you brother over 50 years in Brevard these fools would still be in jail. We are now in Puntham its a whole different world up here. I love the country end of it but it's very upside down backward here. I have called two differant tv stations fox 51 here and fox Jax not a peep from either and called local newspaper here yesterday not a peep as of user

Let's see if I have this right.

Because the property is homesteaded, animals can be left there. The evicted naked apes can only be there during daylight hours.

Are they feeding the animals whilst there? If they are bringing food and water on a regular basis then I can see how their behaviour wouldn't breach local animal welfare laws.

However, on a moral level they are lower than pond scum. They are using the animals as a last desperate excuse to demonstrate control over the property, IMHO.

You are on point .Only feeding them bare minum. As they did when living there. Mean while animals bark non stop from around dusk till 3: 00 am. That is legal here too

Where is county dog warden?

Where is county dog warden? My bet is that none of the dogs have licenses. Therefore the dog warden can confiscate the dogs and take them to the dog pound for food and care and where they can be adopted out.

not every place needs licensing

County I live in has a kennel law .. your only allowed so many dog and cats and if you go over that number you have to apply for a Special Kennel License .. have to be inspected and have and maintain certain containment requirements ..

It seems that something is terribly wrong here. I just can't imagine a set of laws so backward, and all other venues of redress lead to naught. Are we sure that you've gone to the right point of contact in every instance? This is incredible (and intolerable)...

...and many will tell you that laws about how we treat animals are too much government interference and just a foot in the door of our lives. Be careful what you wish for.;)

No one has mentioned more regulation, simply leverage the regulations that are already there. I don’t think any of us want more government intrusion, just simply apply the current laws and regulations we have on the books and we should be fine.....at least that is all I am asking. But then again I would have already cut the chains and reported the loose animals to animal control......

Moralem I have thought about that more sleepless nights that I can count in last year and half. But here's the real problem. If I do that I would be arrested .I can't afford that financially, second I can't afford to be in jail health wise . I have opened up a hugh can of worms in this county . They would love to nail me on anything.I will give you an example . Went up in July to renew tag on car. That very afternoon Sherrific office pulls wife over for expired tag.Wife politely tells S O that tag was done today. Look at sticker. Her birthaday was the next week end. He said it wasn't in his system. But he saw new sticker. My wife is 61 first time she says shes ever been pulled over.

I feel for you, we have that same type of BS in rural Texas. Sooner or later someone has to take a stand.....run for county commissioner, back the opposing sheriff candidate......I know it can be intimidating so do the best you can.....I got elected to our small town’s city council and then ultimately worked with other council members to de-annex our part of the city that was annexed and got out from under the thumb of small city tyranny. All the best to you.

Bad situation, but strongly advise against getting cozy with groups like PETA.

Not saying do it either but-do as your HEART tell you. I just lost my pal of 14 years and I would do what I thought I could get away with. Tossing food over a fence is not a felony. Id also in the least-supply water.

My local county/city has some very stupid ordnances concerning cats and dogs. One is that it is illegal to bury a deceased one on your OWN property but its an ordnance that is unenforceable and I don't know anyone who doesn't ignore it.

My Bil and Sis offered to let me bury Shasta on their property as she passed away almost 3 months ago. I had her cremated instead-because I'm taking her ashes with me when I relocate some time, to the Hill Country. They are planning leaving the area as well-and I'm not leaving Shasta here.

That said, had I decided to bury Shasta? I would have done so thinking at how much i'd be gladly sticking my middle finger at those who created that stupid ordnance. Stupid ordnances are like that one-deserve to be ignored.

Anyway, I forgot who's post I originally quoted before the wifi made me reset and I lost it-but the mentioned PETS should not be informed. I agree except in this case. Maybe wingrider doesn't have the funds to fight the scumbags who may or may not be threatening him, but PETA does. PETA sure would be breaking any stupid rules and would be feeding those dogs.
