Heiser from the Bargain Bin

Thanks for the information. Here are some other not-so-great photos.

I talked to Dick(Rburg) right after I bought it, and he also suggested a Woodsman but said that they were usually a little bit more plainly marked as such.

I did try a Detective Special in it, which is obviously too big. I'd initially thought that it might be a K frame, but if the DS won't fit, I'm sure a K won't...perhaps an I frame would.

Unfortunately, the idiot who tagged it at the store stapled the price tag onto the retention strap. I was able to remove it with minimal scarring.

Just down the road is a neat turn of the century house in need of restoration.It just went on the market and it belonged to the founder of Colorado Saddlery ( who I believe started with Heiser)The perfect Christmas gift for the serious leather collector and I just happen to know a highly skilled Carpenter [emoji41]

It's definitely for a semi,not a revolver. I would bet money that it will accommodate a pre-war Woodsman or possibly a High Standard. ;)

That scratching above the maker's mark on the back will likely tell you what it fits. You may have to hold the holster in the right light to be able to read it.

Well, Ben, I can tell you it needs a good coating of Black Rock. Maybe my perspective is longer term than yours. I try to keep stuff forever, or 10 years anyway. I went to the NGD show over the weekend and there was slim pickin's of Heiser stuff there. Joe and I will be at RK show there the day after Christmas. If you bring it, we can look at it and insult your buying decision.

Its a nice holster, and they don't make anything nearly that good today. I think the snap/button identifies it as prewar. Not sure which war.

I have my uncle's High Standard Field King with the original holster he bought in 1949 says he, but the gun Serials out to 1950.

The Heiser is very similar. I researched and found your model 420. Go to this link;

H. H. Heiser Automatic Holsters - vintagegunleather.com - California

It lists the 420 to fit the High Standard Sport King.

Now for your reprimand, I too hit the junk boxes in LGS's. I find neat stuff there. Do not incite the natives with stories of gold or treasure or we'll have competition at the junk box... :)

Thanks guys for all the thoughts and suggestions.

The writing definitely says "22" and two letters, but I can't quite make out what the two letters are.

I don't have a Woodsman or a High Standard to test in it...
