Hello from a new owner

Again, never ran into that problem with any of my mags - and I've gone through many, many of them over the years -pistol, rifle, rim fire, center fire ...

The ONLY magazines that have given me problems are the two Plinker Tacticals. Well designed, quality magazines should work the FIRST time, IMHO.

I've come across it with Glock magazines. Most were fine...some were quite literally impossible to completely fill the first time, even using the "loading tool" Glocks come with.

Obviously we have had different experiences.

I finally got to break in my new 15-22 today. Took my wife & 11 year old daughter out with me, along with a boatload of other guns & ammo. Good thing I brought all the other guns to shoot.

I fired half a mag getting the red dot sight dialed in, then handed it over to my wife. 450 rounds of CCI Standard Velocity went through the gun, only 75 rounds by me. I could barely get the gun away from my wife & daughter. My daughter blew through the most ammo.

It's a blast to shoot.

Right now, I only have one stock S&W 25 round mag, and the Black Dog Machine 50 round "Tommy Gun" mag. The rifle ate all the ammo, the stock mag ran perfectly, but we had some issues with the BDM 50 rd mag after a while, when the wax from the bullets built up and started to affect how they fed through the neck of the mag. A little dissapointing, but obviously we'll have to keep on top of cleaning that after a few mag-full's when using this particular CCI ammo. I have 5k rounds of it.

Hoping we'll eventually get the other 10 S&W stock mags that I have on backorder, since they feed so much better than the BDM 50 rd mag.

All in all, though, I'm real happy with this little 15-22, though I don't expect to get much trigger time on it when my wife & daughter are with me. I bought it so I could shoot an AR style rifle for a lot less money than it costs me to burn through ammo with my 5.56 AR, but it's been commandeered by the girls.

Does anyone have any suggestions on cleaning? I clean all my guns after each range session, but I thought I've seen some chatter that these 15-22's prefer to run a little dirty, and maybe only clean after every couple thousand rounds?

Welcome

hello from California and welcome to the forum , Im new myself and Your find great information, alot of hints and and good conversation.

There are several threads already in existence concerning cleaning. Reading them will either answer all your questions or make you come up with more. :D

After my session, it did not look like it was that dirty. I cleaned it anyway. I wish ammo was more available. I would like to see what works best. It seemed I had the most issues with cci.

I just got a shipment of eley sport in. Does anyone have experience with it?

Thanks?.

Lol. You are right. I am on my first cup of coffee. If I can find more mags, I may take the S & W to my first Appleseed next month.

Welcome!!

GREAT rifle for the Appleseed training class, just don't sling it too tight, you'll pull the front sight off target and you'll struggle with accuracy.

Simply put some light tension on the sling to snug it up and be consistent with that tension for every stage of the class and you should have no problem.

My experience was a learning one, I was slinging too tight and had real problems throughout the class....until I realized weeks later that the tension I was applying to the foregrip part of the 15-22 was affecting my sights and my accuracy. :(....:o

Needless to say I have since stopped using a sling with this rifle.

Gunzilla, thats for the tip on sling usage.
While I dont sling, Im sure many here do.

Thanks Gunzilla

I was debating between the S&W and my Ruger 10/22.

I got back from my first and last Appleseed event in Waco, Ga.

Absolutely a horrid experience. They were not prepared for the weather. I had difficulty hearing the instructors over the wind and there was very little one on one instruction. I shot less than 100 rounds the whole day. Most of the instruction was on the prone position. After lunch the sitting and standing positions were rushed. I had no feed back if I was doing these positions correctly. I have a back injury and I have had hard fusion surgery on my lower back. The sitting position was difficult and as result I have hurt my back.

I had tarps, plastic covering for my equipment, stakes for my mat that was recommended by the Appleseed equipment list but I could not use them since they had AstroTurf down and they had to inspect the rifles after every segment. Instructors were moving the sand bags off my mat allowed the wind carry my mat and rifle at least 5 feet and I still need to determine if damage was caused to the rifle and scope. During education and demonstration periods the instructors were walking on my equipment and stepped on our rifles at least 9 times. I was told to deal with it.

Historical education segments (strikes). The instructors were very knowledgable and conveyed material well. Still a microphone or something to amplify your voices over the wind would have helped. I enjoyed this part of the day.

I did not return for day two since I did not to accept the risk additional damage to my rifles and equipment for so little return.

Maybe it was just a bad weekend because of the weather or a new group of volunteers, but I thought wasted $80 and additional time and resources that I could have gotten from watching iTunes videos and going to a local range on my own.

Hey if you don't like the pink figure out what color dye you need to get the pink to a tan or a green... might come out with something real cool...:D

I think the gf would have issue painting her gun now. Lol.

Just wanted to say that the last night at the range had no feed problems with the plinker tactical mags. I was shooting cci standard velocity.

The gf is getting much better shooting her rifle. She actually had a better shoot the last mag that she shot than me.

The more I shoot the smith and wesson 15-22 the more I love it. Now to look for bipods....
