I finally got to break in my new 15-22 today. Took my wife & 11 year old daughter out with me, along with a boatload of other guns & ammo. Good thing I brought all the other guns to shoot.
I fired half a mag getting the red dot sight dialed in, then handed it over to my wife. 450 rounds of CCI Standard Velocity went through the gun, only 75 rounds by me. I could barely get the gun away from my wife & daughter. My daughter blew through the most ammo.
It's a blast to shoot.
Right now, I only have one stock S&W 25 round mag, and the Black Dog Machine 50 round "Tommy Gun" mag. The rifle ate all the ammo, the stock mag ran perfectly, but we had some issues with the BDM 50 rd mag after a while, when the wax from the bullets built up and started to affect how they fed through the neck of the mag. A little dissapointing, but obviously we'll have to keep on top of cleaning that after a few mag-full's when using this particular CCI ammo. I have 5k rounds of it.
Hoping we'll eventually get the other 10 S&W stock mags that I have on backorder, since they feed so much better than the BDM 50 rd mag.
All in all, though, I'm real happy with this little 15-22, though I don't expect to get much trigger time on it when my wife & daughter are with me. I bought it so I could shoot an AR style rifle for a lot less money than it costs me to burn through ammo with my 5.56 AR, but it's been commandeered by the girls.
Does anyone have any suggestions on cleaning? I clean all my guns after each range session, but I thought I've seen some chatter that these 15-22's prefer to run a little dirty, and maybe only clean after every couple thousand rounds?
