I just purchased my first ever pistol..A M&P 9c..And I love it!! After 900 rounds through it (It has performed flawlessly) my last trip to the range, I had 3 stovepipes..I also noticed the the spent shells seemed to be ejecting into my face. I field strip and clean after every session. Any thoughts on what is happening would be appreciated..

Welcome to the forum

I'm not familiar with that model but I would consider the possibility of a dirty extractor,I know you mentioned being attentive to cleaning but just a small build up of carbon/junk under that extractor hook will cause eratic ejection paths. That was my first consideration, I'm sure some with more experience on that model will be along with more thorough ideas or solutions.
Have you tried different brands of ammo ?

Welcome to the FORUM! I do not have 1 myself. My 9mm 1911 was doing this, and it was the extractor. Replaced it. Clean your gun good, and try again. There are some U-Tube videos that may help. Let us know how you make out. Bob

Wear a ballcap so those shells don't get down your eye protection. Nothin like hot brass on the eyelid or cheek.

Thank you all for the welcome and your suggestions..I have cleaned the ejector and will try out my pistol today to see if that improves performance.

Welcome to the forum from Canada as well. Sometimes its the ammo thats at fault. 9mm seem to like the 124gr ammo the best I have found but that was just my guns. Others may differ.

Welcome and congrats on the new gun.
I also think extractor. Could be dirt under the hook, Could be dirt restricting the spring, could be a chipped extractor.

Welcome to the forum from a fellow Arizonan (formerly of Brooklyn). I have never had that particular pistol but I am sure other forum members will continue to post with helpful constructive suggestions, this is an excellent forum, wealth of knowledge from the members.

Are you by any chance using low recoil ammo. If so switch back to your normal ammo. Low recoil ammunition will not move the slide back far enough to eject the shell. It will also throw the shell a very short distance. Like in your face.
