Help Please

Hi Y'all!

While I normally hangout in the revolver forums, I wanted to come over to ask a question. I have a 1st generation Shield chambered in .40 S&W. I took it to the range today, so it needed cleaning.

Cleaning went ok, no problems with field stripping the gun. However, after putting the slide back on I saw the guide rod was sticking out of the end. When I tried to take it back down I couldn' t pull the slide back far enough to lock it. It just won't go.

Any ideas on how to take the gun down or fix the problem? I've owned this Shield since 2013 or so and cleaned it many times. I' ve had this happen before. Help please. TIA!

Try pulling the guide rod further out the frontend and letting it snap back in.

Did you manage to get it in backwards somehow maybe? I don't have a Shield.

There's a good possibility that the guide rod was not seated properly against the barrel lug. Try JackM's advice and wiggle it around as you pull on it. With luck, it should seat properly and snap in all the way. Then you should be able to fully retract the slide. Before you put the slide back on, check to be sure that the guide rod is seated straight and level.

I would agree with the above. I've done the same thing you have OP and that is how I got it back together.

Thanks! That was the case. It's what I get for talking on the phone while reassembling the gun. Lesson learned at a cheap price.
