I'm new to this gun. The first time I field stripped it to clean it, I can't get the slide and lower to fit back together properly. They are loose, I'm not sure why, I thought I followed the insrtuctions, looks pretty simple. A little help, please

Loose as in not tight fitting (they are not), or something more?

Firs time I somehow took mine apart with out the hammer back. It wont go together until you push it back. You can do that with your finger.

Unnaturally loose. The take town lever is very difficult to push up, unlike the videos I've seen where it moves easily. It's so simple, I don't understand, I think the gun is fine. I bought it online, otherwise I would take it back to gun shop, lesson learned

Never mind . I put the thread protector nut back on and the gun is fine. Not sure why, but thanks for replies

The thread protector on the version of .22 compact I have flares out, and would make all the difference in slide fit.

My cleaning scheme is to put the suppressor adapter back on as a step before releasing the slide stop. If you are not using a suppressor, I don't see the need to remove the protector with every cleaning. Unless you are using an adapter, I wouldn't even expect you to have the appropriate wrench.

BUT, if the new suppressor-ready edition requires that you take the adapter off to remove the slide, yes, it needs to go back on as the last re-assembly step.

Generally, there are no stupid questions, and a complete thread may answer someone else's question early on. So I added this last post.

Aussies, enjoy that .22 compact. I've got 5K rounds through mine, and love it. I wore out the take down lever, and had to send it back for that, but otherwise, it is great.

Thanks, hoc9sw, the thread protector does need to come off to remove the slide and apparently needs to go back on to come the reassembly. I agree with you, it's a fun gun to shoot.

Don't feel bad. This is a common mistake. "Why is the slide so loose? It comes way up in the front!?"

Both the barrel cap and suppressor adapter take up the "slack" and everything is normal, but it's not obvious at first, and it looks for all the world like something is wrong.
