I just got my M&P pro core 9mm in 4.25", and optics are way more expensive up north. So while a family member is in the states for the next couple of weeks I'd like to buy an optic online.

I'm considering the EOTECH MRDS, but does anyone know if you can cowitness with it? I was going to use a burris fastfire III but I heard it sits a bit too high so you can't.

I'm looking at the optic at this link:

EOTech MRD-000-A3 7 MOA Dot Sight Black

Does anyone know if this can cowitness and if I need any mounts or anything, or if that sight is the only thing I need to buy. Appreciate any feedback! Thanks..

This is the one I like (and I know it co-witnesses) JP Enterprises Red Dot Sights - JPoint 4 MOA Dot Sight FREE S&H JPoint4. JP Enterprises Red Dot Sights. Not sure about the one you're looking at though and EOTech is not listed on the adapter page in the back of the manual. You might want to call EOTech and see if they have a cross reference to one of the adapters, or maybe they make one. The CORE is a very popular item so it would be surprising if they didn't.

When you say "way up north" are you referring to Canada, or.... Alaska as in the movie "North to Alaska" where that was the Johnny Horton theme song?

I picked up an EoTech (INSIGHT) MRDS for my CORE 5" from BoTach Tactical a few weeks back for $300. While I very much like the optic itself, it does NOT co-witness with the iron sights and the on/off button is placed on the rear of the optic which is directly in front of the handgun's rear sight...making it very difficult to turn on and off. The CORE should have come with all of the mounting hardware necessary for the optics listed within the CORE's booklet and the S&W website; including the INSIGHT MRDS. Good Luck, hope this helped

J-Point co-witnesses and holds zero after 300+ rounds

Hi Folks,

I am new to this forum and I am away a good bit of the time. That being said...I recently purchased a 5" C.O.R.E in 9mm after a trainer made a joke about my Model 59 that I've packed for the last 30+ years. I didn't get the joke; the thing always goes 'BANG' and hits what it is pointed at. He thought that the lanyard loop was hilarious...go figure?!

OK, back to the 21st century...my CORE shoots well on it's high iron sights, but I didn't buy it for them. So the hunt began for a rugged mini red dot; I read a lot of stories, watched a bunch of YouTubes, and talked to friends. A friend reported on an older fellow that we had trained with a few years back. This older gentleman was still into "wheel" guns and found himself getting caught in way too many reloading drills and that just maybe it was time to move to the 'dark side'. He jumped in with both feet and bought a striker fired mega-shooter, brand unknown, and a red dot to go with it. Talk about jumpin' in with both feet!! His red dot didn't co-witness and he became a victim of what we nick-named "bobbleheading", like the little dashboard toys, when trying to pick-up the red dot.

This story kinda put me off as I use red dots on some of my rifles and love 'em. I had reduced my list of potential sights down to the recently released Deltapoint Pro; but I mean really!!! the thing cost almost as much as my pistol. This brings to mind the ol' adage about an American will buy a $2500 rifle and put a $300 scope on it; whereas, a European will buy a $300 rifle and put a $2500 scope on it. I guess that I am guilty as charged...as well as being verbose...moving on. About 6 weeks ago DVOR had a sale on J-Point red dots and they had the hard to find, for me anyways, center dot version that has a 1moa dot in the middle of a 65moa 12 dot circle, just like the Eotech on my XCR-L. I never have any problem finding that dot and the price shipped was only $218. So, I got it, mounted it with some blue Loctite, co-witnessed it to the high irons and took it to the "club" where it was almost perfect. A couple of minor 'tweaks' and it is perfect, and as mentioned, 300+ rounds later still is perfect. And because of the 65moa circle that surrounds the 1 moa dot there is no dreaded "bobbleheading". If you have the muscle memory for the iron sights the circle and dot will be right there big as life and unmistakable!!

I had never heard of J-Point or the Doktor(sp?) and some of the other mini red dots. Some appear to be rebadged Europeans for the American market!?! But I am, so far, very impressed with this J-Point "http://www.jprifles.com/buy.php?item=JPOINTCD".

I hope that this helps someone; I still have an interest in the DeltaPoint Pro, it would permit me to lose the rear iron sight if I am lucky and it too co-witnesses, but the cost; the best price I could find was $546 and that may be out of date!! And I haven't seen the J-Point for the price I paid lately either...

All disclaimers apply and YMMV!!

Shef

P.S. In another post someone asked about covers for pistol optics...these J-Points ship with two covers;-)

One thing you need to be aware of is that the Deltapoint Pro will not fit the Core at the present time. Leupold says they are working on an adapter plate, and I've read posts about people milling their Core so it would fit. Not a very sound plan on Leupolds part (IMO) I used one of the original Deltapoints for a couple of years on a Core and now it's the wife's gun. Over 70K rounds and no problems. It was relatively inexpensive (I paid around $230 for mine) Not real sure what problem is being addressed by the DP Pro (I know about the locking screws and the battery, but neither one of those is a real problem in normal use)

Bkreutz,

Thanks for the 'heads-up' on the DeltaPoint Pro; I had not heard that. That's $546 that I do not need to budget for;-) I am also not sure just how I would take to the 'triangular' dot. Between this J-Point and my Eotech I am getting quite comfortable with the dot within the circle reticles. Thanks again!! Shef

I use the regular deltapoint on my core, i did not see any real gain in waiting for the Pro, as there weren't any real problems using the original. I got my deltapoint new for less than $300 and it works great for me. for a $250.00 difference in cost the pro just wasn't cost effective to a retiree's wallet. the original fits, co-witnesses, and the core came with the adapter plate for it....

Delta Point Pro will not fit only the Delta point I triedS&W wasn't interested and leupold said they are working on it do not know when the bracket will come out for the pro

I called Leupold and they said they would have an adapter plate sometme in the summer and when I asked the price of the adapter plate they said around $70. No thank you, not for an adapter!!!

I use the JPoint and am very happy with it. I does co-witness very well. Your M&P pistol comes with a mounting plate for it too.....BONUS!

20160102_181219.jpgI have the Fastfire II it co-witness without any issue. You may want to look at the Vortex Viper they finally fixed the issues to be released soon. For the price and warranty cannot go wrong with the FastfireII
