I don't know if this is the proper venue to be asking this question here and I don't want to upset anyone with this concern of mine, but here goes anyway.

I have had a S&W Model 58 for a long time and haven't used it in many years, it's in very good condition. I want to sale it or trade it some time soon, but I don't know what a fair asking price is on these. I see they have new ones out now, how does that effect the value of mine.

Thank You & Best Regards

I think the values of original model 58s have gone up since the introduction of the new 58-1. Yours has factory replacement stocks, which would lower the value a little. I suggest looking at completed/sold auctions on the gun websites to determine a value - it will vary from area to area within the US, but the sites will let you know national trends. Hope this is helpful.

From what I have seen mentioned here recently, I would say $750 - $800 would be ballpark. I doubt the grips will matter much to a .41 fan, and there is no box and paperwork to make that matter a lot in terms of collector value IMHO. Mine is customized and even if it were not I would not sell it at that price. It's a heck of a fighting gun and my first duty weapon in LE.

I wouldn't take 1 k for mine! Had one just like yours and sold it in 85. Had to replace it and did. You have a classic there. The new one's don't compare IMO and cost more. Great SD revolver and in a round that deserves way more respect! Mines stoked with 210 gr. JHP's that will get the job done with authority.

Nice 58!

$750 seems to be the going rate for one in really good condition without box or papers. Those aren't the original grips , but nickeled guns might bring a bit of a premium over blued for some , so , go with the $750 figure.

THE MODEL 58 WAS INTRODUCED IN 1964 .41 MAGNUM. HERE ARE THE PRICING DUE TO CONDITION.
NIB $650. EXC. $475. V.G. $375. GOOD $275. FAIR $200. POOR $125. THIS IS FROM GUNS AND PRICES EDITION, HOPE THIS HELPS YOU OUT.
REGARDS,

I saw an identical model 58 last weekend at a gun show here in Ga. The price was $850.00 And this dealer would not budge on his price at all. I am not sure of the price of the 58's or the 57's n other states, but from what I have seen where I live, I don't see the prices coming down..Ray

You can toss that bit of info out, those prices are unrealistic in today's world.

I bought this one about a year and a half ago at one of those live auctions. Got it for 650 but after buyers premium and high shipping fees paid close to 825. I'm happy to have it.

I did buy a 4 inch blued 57 from a large gun dealer in NC last year, it was NIB and even included the original shipping box, blue box, tools, paperwork AND presentation case, paid 715 shipped. I got real lucky on that one, maybe he didn't know the value.

Here is how I see it .
MOST people I know who want a model 58 ( any model 58) , want it as a GUN , not a collectors item.

ANY clean and tight pre lock model 58 is worth AT LEAST as much as a current one NIB.
