Well... for some of us it is....

A few weeks ago I removed the lock from my father's 642. I figured I'd post a picture of it for those of you who haven't seen one before. I should have taken a picture of the inside of the 642, but didn't think of it. When you rotate the key, it turns a stout little arm that moves the lock into position.

Anyway here it is.

A side note: My father carried this for a few years and put many rounds through it. Never had an issue with the lock. I removed it for him... just in case. It was very simple... took less than 10 minutes.

My locks all sit comfortably nestled in tactical zip lock baggies in the gun safe.

My S&W revolvers have no locks. If I wanted to pay too much money for an overated handgun, and then remove or replace parts to increase the odds of it functioning reliably, I'd buy Kimbers.

I'll take the lock over the Barack Obama and a majority Democrat congress any day, and twice on Sunday.
In fact: I'll take the lock over any gun-grabber, Republican or Democrat...

Cool pics. 10 minutes huh? Sounds like a quick easy fix if the lock really bothers you.

I've never had an issue with the "Hillary hole"; my gun functions fine with it and I worry that tampering with a "safety feature" in that manner could get you in a legal quandary.
I can imagine the prosecutor: "Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury: This person was so bent on killing, with no regard for safety, that he modified his gun to be LESS SAFE!!! That's right, he wanted to be sure that the gun would KILL when called upon. This shows clear disregard for, not just his safety, but for the safety of the community." ... or something like that.

I will say this: I won't miss it if it goes away. It's not pretty and it's pretty useless.

Assuming I want to remove the lock and, further - that I would like to keep dirt and crud out of the mechanism - does anyone sell a filler block that would plug the hole in the frame and make it less noticeable?

Aside from the lock or the idea of the lock, I just don't like the looks of anything smaller than the N-frames that have the lock. The frames appear to me to be distorted.
