Here we go again... Time for a set up adjustment

Well, I thought I was all squared away with my set up and now I realize I don't really like it.


I thought that based on how I shoot, the AFG was the way to go. After a day at the range, I just don't like it much. I also don't like my bipod... No real reason other than it takes up a lot of realestate and is pretty heavy.

So, I'm looking to swap both for a "grippod" style bipod. Anyone have any experience with this one? I'm not cheaping out but I'm not looking to go top of the line either.

AFG's definitely aren't for everyone. Did you try it out further where it's intended to be? It makes a huge difference in fatigue and stability.

I don't have any experience with those grip pods, but I've heard the metal legged models are the way to go.

I did. That's where I initially had it. I think it has more to do with my grip around the rails.

I'm on the other side of the fence. I bought one of the military issue GripPods (gps 02, I think) that has the metal legs. I really prefer the small stubby grip for general "hand held" use and my regular bipod for shooting off the ground or a bench. I'll probably sell the GripPod in the near future.

check out ar15pro they have some resonably priced I have one one my gun it works ok slides a bit its plastic keep that in mind after I learned that I have no gripes good luck.

I should have added that you don't need to pay $125+ to get a real one. I've read that thousands of these were dispersed to the military and some used them, some not. Ebay is filled with soldiers who have returned home and are selling them off. I have no doubt mine is authentic, and I think I paid about $55.

I have an "airsoft" version. It's a TAPCO. Works awesome. The bipod just slides into the bottom of the vertical grip when you need it. It's tight so it won't fall out on you. It was like 35 bucks on ebay.

AFG belongs at the end of the rail, farthest out possible, not close in. Have you tried using just a hand stop? This is my preferred method or you could use a stubby VFG and.choke up on it, both work.

That is the grip/bipod that I bought. I like it although it is a little large. I only shot about 200 rounds with it attached, but seems to be holding up well. The legs have metal spines that go down the center of each side to add stability.

I shot 75 rounds using the bipod today and I am really liking this grip. Another nice feature is having a rail mount on the side. I put my laser on that side which easily allows my thumb to bump it on and off (I'm a lefty). I paid 29.99 for it.

A lot of the shooting stance is based on the kind of training you have gone through, style and type of shooting. Target shooting has no real style, just shoot. But any of the tactical training will require either a aggressive stance and a certain kind of weapon hold. Our last training was very close to the Magpul "Dyanmic" training and using either a forward vertical grip or Angle forward grip give some options, some feel natural, sometimes it feel un-natural, each person has to try it for themselves to see what works. I've been holding my weak arm extended and gripping the very front of the forward rail with my thumb over the top, this is working very well for me in recoil and fast aquistion shooting courses. I also have have a vertical forward grip, but I don't use it during my training, sometimes just to hold the weapon.. I may have to remove it soon. Good luck.

That's the neat thing about the M&P it is a AR type clone of the AR15, although 22LR, most will just run with the tactical type of hold and training that the full size AR's use. Even though most of the owners may not be LEO, or active military, the training is still very functional and lends itself to usefulness shooting the M&P 15/22 even in the civilian environment.
