Hey everybody new shield owner here

Hey everyone I just received my concealed carry in the mail. Went to the range test fired a shield in 9mm and walked out the store an owner of my 3rd smith and wesson firearm. I also bought a holster and then stopped at Walmart and bought 400 rounds. I'm pretty excited. Like the pistol alot. Can't wait to break it in. Got home cleaned and lubricated it. Any tips or recommendations or feedback for me.

Congratulations! I purchased my Shield back in January and couldn't be happier. It's amazingly accurate for a compact and is a blast to shoot as you've already found out. Mine is nearing the 1k round mark and the trigger is much better now than when I first bought it. No failures of any kind and it's been fed 10 different brands of ammo, some of which was really cheap stuff. My ammo of choice is Blazer Brass 124g FMJ for the range and Federal 124g HST's for carry.

Oh, and you probably should pick up some more ammo cause you'll burn through 400 rounds in no time.

In the past 6 weeks, I've bought 2-Shields; a 40 w/safety and a 9 without. Both are incredibly accurate to 7 yards. Just shot the 9 at 10 yards the other evening and was not disappointed! I have a thread on both and update weekly. Still need to post my 10 yard targets with the 9mm.

Enjoy your new Shield, I have 3 FS M&P's and 2 SD/VE's. Next purchase will be a FS M&P 22.

Welcome! The Shield is my go to gun 99% of the time. It just disappears for conceal carry, and it's just a hoot to shoot!

Will definitely be picking up more rounds after next paycheck lol. Really want to get the practice in. At home I practiced drawing from the holster and removing the safety(unloaded) I can tell I am really going to love this firearm. It was a choice between the shield and xds and the salesman at my lgs told me shield all the way

Congrats on getting your Shield. I hope you're as pleased with it as I am with mine.

My only bit of "advice" is to make sure the recoil spring assembly is in properly and nice and straight when reassembling the gun after cleaning and whatnot. There are a number of stories of the flat plate at the end bending. I've never seen a definitive answer to what causes this, but one school of thought is that it happens when the part isn't set just right at reassembly.

Good idea to plan on buying more ammo.

A modern striker-fired handgun does not require a break-in period. It just needs to be proved that it is functioning correctly and that process requires far less than 400 rounds.

Tips? Yes, use Federal HST 124 grain or 147 grain ammo which performs very well in a short-barrel gun like the Shield. For target ammo most people shoot 115 grain ammo but you can easily find American Eagle 124 grain target ammo online at places such as SGAmmo or Ammunition Depot. ...And buy a knife (e.g. Spyderco Paramilitary 2) as a back-up "weapon".

i have several smaller carry guns, the shield, a 637 wyatt deep cover, and a sig p938, i allways keep coming back to the shield, i shoot that sucker with deadly accuracy, ill show ya mine.

Congrats! As far as tips, it was already mentioned to keep an eye on the orientation of the RSA. There are plenty of posts about that in this forum. I would also recommend an Uplula mag loader. The mag springs are pretty robust and this thing is a life saver. Like a lot of Shield owners I put the Talon rubber grips on mine and love the way it feels now. Might be something to think about. +1 on buying more ammo!

Congratulations on the purchase of the new Shield.
I shoot mine about every week at the LGS&R. I find 124gr. Ball ammo from Freedom Munitions is excellent to shoot.
It is very economical, has a low muzzle flash, and very clean in regards to the black carbon powder left in the gun.
My Shield has over 600 rds. through it and is still like new. At 7-10 yds. it is very accurate. I'm sure you will enjoy your Shield as much as I do mine after you've shoot it more.

Shields may not need have a break-in period but mine sure grew up a bit!
