60-year old prospective first gun owner.

I've had a Beeman P1 for years and enjoyed plinking with my boys when they were growing up. But now I'm wanting to upgrade.

I applied for my first gun license and hand gun permits last December. Picked it up a few days ago. Yes, it took almost a year. Yay, NJ!

During that time I did some training and am looking forward to more. Been to a couple of ranges and tried quite a few types of firearms. I seem to be drawn to revolvers.

I've been lurking here for a while and doing some homework. The S&W 19 Carry Comp has my attention. I have an FFL near me, but now that I finally have my license, it seems you can't seem to buy a gun anywhere!

Suggestions?

Welcome from Western Massachusetts. Congrats on your new license. There is a section of this forum that has guns for sale, you might want to check that first.

Welcome! Gun famine in effect now is pretty bad, keep looking local and check the classifieds is about all you can do.

Welcome to the forum from North Carolina. You'll find a bunch of knowledgeable folks here. Good luck with your search for your revolver.

Welcome from across the Hudson in Manhattan. Where in New Jersey are you? A lot of Northern New Jersey guys buy handguns at Daves's in Sloatsburg, New York. They are a Smith Distributor and usually have decent inventory and prices. They have a New Jersey counterpart for the transfers.

I belong to Cherry Ridge Gun Club in New Jersey and can actually bring handguns into the state from New York, though many rules apply.

Hello from NW PA, what exit?

Ha, no exit. I'm in western Hunterdon County. Not far from PA and maybe the best kept secret in the country! Still under NJ rule though...ugh.

My business is in Bucks. Likely moving there after the city exodus subsides.

Thanks, Bob. I'm closer to PA than NY, but beggars can't be choosers at this point. I need to find a club/range in my are that works for me to. There is on in Flemington, but I haven;'t been in yet.

I saw a new Model 19 Carry Comp on Gun Broker, but it's selling for full list price. Understandable given the circumstances, but I'm not desperate.

Welcome from Delaware, a gun friendly state. Left NJ and their firearms paperwork BS behind 4 years ago, and never looked back.

When I lived in Mt. Olive, NJ in Warren county i belonged to Shongum gun club outside Hacketstown. Has indoor and outdoor ranges.

My sympathy on your one year wait for a pistol permit. Blame your local police chief, for it moving so slowly. I could get a pistol permit in about a week in Mt. Olive.

There's life west of the Delaware River!

Enjoying Colorado
