I am new to the fire arms world. I have an S & W from 1916. It's a military issue. 38 special ctg. The more I've been reading about these the more amazed I am at how well they were made, and only minor improvements were possible. A true testament of their artisanship and functionality.
My guess is that I should probably not use this as a carry piece or something to throw lead down at the range, eh? Any thoughts?

Have it checked by a competent gunsmith and if OK then shoot it. I've several as far back as 1921 in they shoot very well.
