Greetings my fellow squishy flesh-monsters.
I was born and raised in Scotland until I was 23, then moved near Calgary, Alberta, Canada (Xmas 2004); I haven't moved since arrival. I'd never had any interest in using (let alone owning!) a gun until really very recently. I had a shot with one a couple of years ago, and thought it was quite neat.
Nothing much changed for a while, but then, come later in the year of 2009, the notion of buying a gun had gained enough momentum for me to take the two safety courses required to be able to apply for a licence for the possession and acquisition of long guns and handguns. This I did, and got my application off for the licence in December 2009.
Following a torturously inefficient and complicated process, which meant receiving my licence was greatly delayed over the norm, I finally got it by the end-of-April/early-May 2010.
I got a Ruger 10/22 all-weather carbine. Went out with it a few times over the coming weeks; it was good. I then decided I wanted to have a go at clay shooting, and also had an inherent need in me to have a pump-action shotgun just because the pumping action is so damn satisfying; so I bought a Remington 870, and it has also been good. I have been having a thoroughly good time learning how to shoot, clean, and unjam them: it has all been a thoroughly rewarding learning curve of a dramatically steep ratio (and I am still like only 5" off of sea-level!).
Anyway, I have been thinking about having a revolver ever since I first shot one on that first time shooting. I am now in a place where I am OK with paying for a gun club membership (can only use handguns at ranges here, and the free one I have hitherto used does not have a handgun range). The other factor putting me off has been the cost of many handguns, but I have just switched car insurance firms mid-policy for a huge saving (the refund I am getting just so happens to exactly match the price of the handgun in question). I have a low-paying job, so suddenly finding myself with enough money for this gun appearing, well, I figured to just live a little and go for it.
So, I am currently awaiting arrival, via intra-branch transfer, of a shiny new 10-capacity 6" 617. It has only been two days since getting the process in action, but I am already driving myself to distraction with anticipation.
Anyway............sorry for the rambling!
