I ordered a Hilljak loader for my S&W 15-22 in FDE and it tore the **** out of my mags. It was so tight on the mags it literally dug gouges in my mags. I sent a note to Hilljak an they told me they had a problem with the FDE loaders not fitting- so why are they still sending them out? They sent me a replacement with the bar attachment but this doesn't fit my mags with load assist? I sent another email asking for any color that will work with my load assist mags. What the hell is up with this company? Why do they sell load assists with a known problem- according to their own email?! Just send me one that works- I could care less what color it is. Sorry for the rant but I'm sick of companies sending us **** products.

Why the need for a load assist tool? Try a slickloader, if you're really looking for ease in loading up your mags. (unless, of course, you have the long ten-rounders, which come without the load assist button.)

Never heard of it. I can load a 25-round magazine with just the stock button and my fingers in slightly more than 30 seconds ... and I have arthritis! :)

Are you trying to say that sometimes, some things do not need an aftermarket modification?

Heresy!

I get my two young sons involved (8 & 12) in loading the 20 mags we have for our pair of 15-22s. They enjoy loading up the mags as we get ready to head to the range. The mag loaders would make it much easier for them.

I've got 5 Hilljak Quickie Loaders - great tools!

Sounds like you have a personal hate thing going for Hilljak - that's too bad. I actually have several of their products and use them for competition shooting. I also use a quickie loader on my AR-15-22 MOE and no problems at all - works great loading up. In the competition shooting world they are the performance mag loader of choice. I went to one of their demo days out in Ohio and they were a very technical company and showed their R&D development - they work with a lot of big time shooters who help develop their products. Also saw Jeff Quinn of Gunblast.com endorsing their products - he only puts a positive stamp on "A" quality stuff!

Works4me

I have the Hilljack in red for the three 25 round mags with the assist buttons that I have and it fits and works with no problems at all. Works real nice. I have a Hilljack for my Ruger MK3 mags and it works like a champ. I do have the Ultimate Clip Loader too, but the Hilljack is a quick back up tool.

I don't see why the FDE would be tearing up the mags, I'd think they would all be made from the same mold.

You wouldn't think the hilljack material would do any damage to the 15-22 mags.

Always something new.

Yes, of course from the same mold, however when molding colored items, each different color can be a different size. Has to do with the rate of resin cooling & different colors cool at different rates. The machine operator has to watch for this during color changes & if the part has close tolerances... has to make adjustments.

Think about the molding process. Hot liquid resin fills the tool then has to cool & set within seconds for the tool to open, eject the part(s) & start all over again. A black part cools at a different rate than a white one and this difference impacts part size just a bit.

Interesting post, Jim. I don't know anything of the process, but it would have never occurred to me the influence of color.

I'm almost positive the Hilljak quickie loader is 3D printed polymer - it's extremely strong. With 3D printing each product is made individually so it's very accurate. It's different from injection molding where plastic may expand/contract. 3D printing builds in layers and the polymer cools almost instantly. Really high tech stuff. I just got tried a MAGBAR on one of my converted mags. This works really well for M&P 15-22 10rd mags - you can easily pop out the restricter to make it hold 25 rounds.

I don't know what competition you shoot but hardly anybody uses the HillJak loaders and I shoot just about every discipline there is including at least one world championship every year. For .22 pistols there is only one loader that is at the top and that is the McFadden Machine Ultimate Clip Loader. Nothing else is even close in form and capability. For centerfire pistols the #1 most popular loader are the ones from Maglulu by a wide margin. For AR-15s the Magpul strip loader is tops. However
I expect the new Caldwell AR-15 Mag Charger to become the new darling of 3-gun very quickly. As for .22 rifles the new McFadden Machine Ultimate Grip Loader is going to take the tactical .22 and 10/22 shooting world by storm. Like Majorlk I can load a 25 rd mag in about 30 secs with no loader and arthritis. But a loader in the 7 second range for 25 rounds is one I will use and so I have ordered one. The nicest thing about McFadden loaders is you don't have to touch the ammo, period. And they will always work if you take the time to get the initial adjustments right for your mags.
I don't consider anything as being a loader if I have to manipulate the mag. If all it does is replace my thumb at the thing that pulls the follower button down it is not a loader it is just a load assist tool.
