I already stated that he is in the wrong if he bought property with covenants. In you original post you said nothing about that. You concern for the kids is "duly noted" but, I come from a very long line of people who where children in homes with outhouses, no electricity or running water. I fact I am the first generation of my tribe to be born into a home with those things. Neither my father or mother were. My mom was born in a part sod house at the beginning of the great depression, My father on a ranch still far from any of those. Many of my country cousin didn't have such things for sometime after I was born. They all lived though it.

Steelslaver no disrespect intended. That was a spell check typo. You and I are not that different. My parents were born in the 1930s in rural West Virginia. My dad never had indoor plumbing till he came to NY to work at Bethlehem Steel in the 50s. My entire childhood I spent summers on my grand parents farm. We took "baths" on the back porch with a wash pan into the mid 70s. We used an outhouse till then as well. But there was always an obvious pride of ownership.

It's not about making rules for others. It's about being a blight on the neighborhood. Even if the neighborhood is made up of 100 acre parcels. My moms family owned and operated one of the largest dairy farms in West Virginia. No junk laying around, no dilapidated out builds etc. it was a working farm. It looked and smelled like a working farm. Which is a beautiful sight. The thing is, it doesn't cost a penny to be neat and clean. If someone has difficulty keeping up their property but is trying, that's a different story. The people who have no pride of ownership tells me a lot about that person.

Ya, I don't get that kind. Don't take a lot of money to be clean. I knew a woman, via my sister in law, who was well off. Her house was so bad they had to strip the carpets and sheetrock etc because she let her dog go everywhere. While they did that she bought a nice new place out of town and in a month I wouldn't go in it. Amazing

You can be poor, you can live in a shack, you can have a lot of junk, but filth is a whole nother story I do not understand.

We brought our land back in the 1990's and built our home in 2001. This year we finished a remodeling project that according to the latest assessment puts the value of our home $150k above the average assessment of other homes in the area.

Based on your comments you will be upset seeng my 26 old year beat-up, rusty, painted faded pickup sitting in the driveway. Then there is my horse trailer that is being used for hay storage and hasn't been moved in several years.

The front pasture is full of tall weeds. The grass in front of our house hasn't been mowed for two months due to the mower in the shop.

Oh I forget about my horse(s), round pen, large garden for food prepping, the chicken coop, large half painted shed.

Stop by and lecture me all you want about how my eyesore is causing your emotional distress. After you are done venting my response will be;

Git over it.

I will also suggest you wear dark sunglasses when you drive by so you will not see my property as well.

In fact I have a old rusty car out back that I will drag close to the road because I enjoy looking at it.

I started this thread as a vent about a foolish man who thinks he's going to live on the side of a mountain in an established subdivision with covenants and flaunt not only the wishes and rights of his neighbor's but also the well established laws of the land. With a wife and 5 kids but no power, water, septic, or heating, he will not make it. His "homestead" adventure has failure written all over it. I have the law and time on my side.

This thread was never about uncut grass, snow plows, hay wagons, or permanently parked vehicles. But, alas, this thread has gotten too personal for some and I recommend we end it.

Help him get right with the situation being one.
Offer to take the parcel off his hands, pointing him to a location more suitable for his intellect.
Make popcorn and watch state, local and hand of God impress upon him the error of his ways.

No apology needed. I never intended this thread to make it past a few posts. It was simply a vent as some of us are prone to do. Like many threads, however, it took on a life and direction of its own.
One of the things I like about this country is the ability to speak your mind and disagree without worrying about another clan, tribe, sect, or faction coming after you.

Many years ago I took my wife to visit my brother in southern MO. (ozarks)
Very small town where we lived on a farm when we were kids. My brother stayed, got married 19 and 18 year olds. Still there 55 years later. They both worked very hard bought a nice home in town. My bro made the comment that he had to go fix something at one of the houses bordering his property. My wife asked "OH you do that type work also"
My bro and I both laughed then I told her he owns every house bordering his property 3 total. She asked why, he answered. One was 6000, one 8000, and one 12000. So as each one came up for sale we bought it. Otherwise you get to deal with renters of a 6000 house. He rented mostly to kids of
friends whos parents raised right and he had strict contracts. He still lent out lawn mowers helped fix broken down cars etc, but he does that stuff for all his neighbors, as they do also. Really a great place , I would live there today except no way the wife would go...

When the wife found our place I thought wow it is out in the boonies. Now with all the building around north TX, Im so glad and lucky we got our place. Still only one house visible from ours (great neighbors) next house 1/4 mile away . I do however like the houses I see out here with cows in the yard and on the porch. No need for lawn ornaments....
