There are several posts in the auto pistol section on the history of the 10mm cartridge and lamenting the 10mm languishing because S&W 3rd gen 10's are out of production.
How about a 10mm M&P. The 10mm is a viable, powerful cartridge. There are still pistols being chambered for it. The 45/45c frames seem robust enough.
It seems there might be a market there. S&W has has produced pistols and revolvers in the past for a much smaller market share.
I don't own a 10, but I wouldn't rule it out for the future, and I would just as soon have a Smith.

If it was offered in the full size, it would be on my must have list as my next purchase. It could never be a compact or sub compact, it would snap your wrist.

If it would fit in the .45 frame, it's a theoretical possibility it could be produced. If Glock doesn't sell many 10 mms S & W would probably figure it isn't worth doing, especially when they sell all the .40s they can make.

I was thinking of a work pistol for rural LEOs or for wildlife control (Putting down critters).
I found a similar thread from 2008. Didn't mean to start a similar thread.

As a friend of mine used to say, the 10mm is a violent cartridge.

I had a Colt Delta Elite in 10mm and even with the heavy steel frame, it was a handful. So, with a light polymer frame I think it might be too much. Of course I've never fired a Glock 10mm so, I have no idea how it would be for an M&P. I suspect it would be better due to the M&P's superior ergonomics.

I have a 1006, 1066, 1076 and a Glock 20. I've owned a Colt Delta Elite.

I'd buy a 10mm M&P in a heartbeat, but as you can imagine, I like 10mm and am already invested enough in it that it's not some odd-ball caliber that I'm adding to my logistics tail. In the end it's a niche gun and may not be viable for S&W to go after.

I'm not a Glock fan at all, but that Glock 20 definately delivers. I'd love to replace it with an M&P, but it would be a tough fight to beat the Glock with many. That leaves you with having to settle for a portion of an already niche market.

I'm sure the idea is in a filing cabinet somewhere at S&W, but I don't think it will gain much traction unless something changes.

That's what they have shotguns with slugs for.Why screw with the 10mm when we already have the .357 Sig.

I like the 17HMR for varmint control. The neighbor and I have laid down some yotes with this caliber. But a 10mm M&P full size would be a sweet pistol. I like a pistol with a little bit of snap to it, keeps you on your toes. Ever see the damage a 10mm does?

Ever see the damage a 12 gauge slug does or a .357 Sig?

You can put me on the list for the 10mm. I had the Glock and am thinking of getting another...but if Smith were to come out with it, they would get my money! Personally I would like to see it in the CORE and use the red dot!

If S&W even hinted.....

I vote yes for the M&P 10. I'd like to see it with tritium sights regulated to 25m, five mags, apex internals, an extra large grip insert, and a carry kit suited for back packing/hiking.

I have to believe chances are slim to none that S&W is ever going to release a 10mm M&P. No doubt a 10mm could be made to work for an M&P platform, and maybe even offered with a 40S&W practice barrel option, but the round still remains too much of niche cartridge for me to think it would be commercially viable for S&W to produce. The Glock 20/21 argument is the only thing that gives me any hope that a M&P45 could one day be morphed in to an M&P10.

Much as I like the 10mm, it's hard to ignore the absence of modern bullet designs for it. There are no currently available self defense rounds like the Federal HST, Winchester Ranger T or bonded Speer Gold Dots to be had in 10mm. Even the best boutique ammo producers are hamstrung by trying to use bullets that were designed for 40S&W and fragment badly and inconsistently when pushed to full boogie 10mm speeds. The one possible exception here is the Hornady XTP bullet, but those really are best reserved for hunting purposes.

Is the 10mm really such a "niche" caliber? It was introduced in 1983 and is used by a lot of people for self defense. In my mind the .357Sig is more unusual and S&W made those for a while.

What about the Buffalo Bore 10 MM round?

I've wanted a M&P in 10mm since I shot my first M&P. I own 3 10mm's a 1006,1086 and a Glock 20 but I would love to add a M&P in 10mm to my collection. I even sent Smith an email for what it was worth. They thanked me for my interest in S&W and said they would consider it. That was a couple of years ago. Maybe I should email them again. I know it won't be a top seller but Glock has continued production of the 20 and 29 so they must sell or they would drop them. Maybe S&W will make one someday and I will be in line to order. Are you listening S&W?
