How accurate are our guns ?

Thanks for the validation, Mike 1974. You and I have been shootin' WAAAY too long to be impressed by "cool looking" weapons. You said it best, Mike--"Why bother ?"

diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks. some like plinking, some like shooting through the same hole 500 times from a bench. I dont own a 15-22, i didnt buy one after i found out about some of the problems, they are fun though.

Just what are the "intended purposes" of the 15-22 ? IMHO, if a weapon isn't accurate, it can't serve any purpose very well--except burn ammunition up.

The intended purpose for my 15-22 is to bounce soda cans around for entertainment.

I'm not sure I understand your formula of weapon/accuracy/purpose. The AK47 isn't known for it's accuracy but it has served the purpose very well for millions around the globe for many decades.... and still does.

It doesn't feel like just burning ammunition when I'm decimating little junk and shotgun hulls on the ground inside 40 yards. If you want to punch little groups on far away paper targets then you bought the wrooong rifle, in the wrong chambering.

purpose of a 15-22?
1 kick in the pants to shoot
2 cooler than a 10/22
3 cheap ammo and still get trigger time
4 very accurate with a little practice
5 cheaper than an AR
6 attention grabber
7 coloring book for grown ups (tacticrayola)
8 picture enhancer
Thats just some of the things i can think of feel free to add on!

i don't have a scope yet but i did 2in groups at 25 yards with no problem. it shoots really good if you ask me. i will know more after a good scope and some 75 yard testing..

Has anyone try Winchester Super x Hyper velocity ammo with MP15-22 ? Red 100pc plastic box.

I forgot if I bought one or two boxes of those but I had no problem. I will get more next time around

I second that, nice insights :D:D:p

Most definitely a fun gun! I'd suggest to shoot steel to get rid of huge, un-fun emphasis on groupings.

I just remembered.... when I sent my rifle back to S&W the top round in the mag was looking like the below. When I got it back there is very little of this happening. I'm sure this has an impact on accuracy.

new to this forum.cheap gun bench shooter. what i do is find out which ammo seems to shoot best then ive got a digital caliper micrometer. get them reasonable at harbour freight. then i measure each round quickly and throw out the ones that are slightly off and shoot them with my pistols or semi auto plinkers and create my own match ammo cheaper than buying match ammo that has had the same exact process done

Rather curious....what component of the cartridge are your measuring? What about primer and powder? How are you measuring those to determine if they are "match" grade or not?

Have you ever reloaded any ammo before?

measuring rounds

i do this with rimfire rounds. just measure total length. 22 match ammo is just loaded to tighter specs on bullet seating.
ie all same length . assuming case length and powder charge are all the same. usually throw out only 10-15 rounds out of fifty
seem to hold tighter groups. i do anything cheaper to get more range time. dont own any real expensive 22s but i think i get them to shoot better than me. thats my goal
take care
