How are you beating the heat?

What heat? Conchita and I got out on the lake with our kayaks for a few hours. Only got to about 82 F. with just enough clouds to take the edge off. Back in Saint Paul, we had Thai at my favorite place: spring rolls, pork necks, a traditional super spicy red curry and some soft shell crab. Then we popped in to the music club where my boy tends bar. Sold out show, but I can always get in to see my boy. Left early after a Tullamore and a beer and here I am.

My Wife and I have a small house with a great air conditioner. Sometimes when she gets home from work, about 3 pm or so, we go out under the giant oak in the front yard and shoot each other with squirt guns. We got started doing that when we had our grandaughters for a couple of years. My youngest grand daughter invented to, "hurt squirt", where you fill the gun with ice cold water from the fridge or cooler. I think those kids taught us more than we taught them.
Peace,
Gordon

Only 104 degrees today. I'm retired so I don't have to go out much. I stay indoors as much as possible. I have refrigerated air, not a swamp cooler, so I can set the thermostat at 75 degrees and be comfortable. In the paper today, the electric company warned of 'rolling blackouts' if we didn't set our thermostats at 78; I'm leaving mine at 75.

I live at 7300' and 80 is about as hot as it ever gets. Humidity occasionally gets to 50% or so but usually lower and lows at night are around 40 this time of year. We don't have air conditioning, don't need it. Honest to Pete, I just don't understand how you guys put up with it! Our winters can be long around here but you just can't beat the summers.

I have lived all my 63 years in the south and it is just something you deal with each summer. The plus side is that if there is a better place in the world than the Ozark mountains in October and November I could not stand it. The usual plan id do it early or late and try to stay out of the worst. When the cows start standing in the ponds head for shade.

I looked at the temp yesterday afternoon and it said 73 degrees, that is dang rare in Oklahoma in the middle of July. We just had some very heavy and dark clouds that afternoon and it has been raining the last 3 days and keeping things a little cooler and pretty green. My last house had a swimming pool and I had 3 Columbia brand swim suits that looked like shorts and that was all I wore in the summer. Any time I felt hot I just emptied my pockets and jumped in the pool and got out, dried off, and went in the garage and changed into a dry pair. My quality of life in the summer was a lot higher with a pool and my wife wants to build one at our new house I just don't want to spend 40 grand. I might get a $500 pool from Walmart because they will get you just as wet.

I'm using some new cryo technology to keep temperatures manageable at my place.

After weeks of near-record high temps, I've adjusted by changing my leisurely noontime round of golf, and set the alarm clock for an 8am start time. Comfortable temps that early, but the dew on the fairway is heavy and shortens the distance the ball rolls, adding strokes to my game. :(

A hard life [emoji14][emoji1]

It was 113 in my pasture yesterday, but fairly dry. Our summer monsoons are AWOL so far. Over about 106 and I can't tell the difference, unless it's humid. I couldn't live where it's muggy all the time. With asthma high humidity makes it real hard to breathe.
All chores done by 11 a.m. for me.

BWZ, enjoy the game and don't worry about your score. I subscribe to the sentiment articulated below.[emoji2]

30 years ago I was at a huge pistol match where there were many Marines in attendance. It was miserable..hot..humid beyond belief. There were some there who "monkied". I noticed the Marines were hardly breaking a sweat. I asked a Captain what gave them the edge? He took me to his truck and introduced me to The Marine Corps Radiator. Zip lock bag full of crushed ice under their caps. Vessels at the thinnest cover, blood cool, you're cool. At least cooler. Been using it ever since. All shooters tomorrow will have the Marine Corps Radiator installed here on the range.

Thanks, Dupont!!!

Wait . . . what? Chemours? Who's the genius who thought that one up?

I love the heat but I'm not gonna lie, it takes a toll. I'm wearing a hat outside and have plenty of water. Hanging out in a/c rooms as much as possible. Our a/c at home is set at 77 degree F and it's okay. I don't wanna spend too much $.

I'm not sure what's better; keeping the a/c on a low temp or setting it on a high temp and run the ceiling fans...?!

It's going to be another hot one here again so we will be planning on spend a good bit of time in the pool.
Since my deck was recently overhauled I'm going to be hosing it down to get rid of the construction dirt, but this will be done in my bathing suit! ;)
