I have a 329PD and I don't like all of the white writing on the sides of the gun. Is there a way to remove this without damaging the finish?

Nail polish remover(acetone) on a toothpick will work if it is paint.

It's not removing the white, it's covering it up. The markings on the gun in the scandium frame are "in the white" for lack of a better term.

There is something out there that Smith uses at the warranty dept for covering up scratches. I have no idea what it is sadly.

Perhaps you could mute the bright white with a permanent black marker enough to please your aesthetic sense?

It might not be permanent, but based on how your revolver shrugged off acetone, it is unlikely to damage the existing finish. Who knows, eventually the dye in the marker might even penetrate the white silk screened material you would like to eliminate and become truly permanent. I don't think it will ever become black, but a more muted gray should be more pleasing than the existing stark white.

Admittedly, if I had one of these revolvers, I would happily live with the existing markings. Oh, and I should add a disclaimer that this suggestion is NOT the result of any actual experience with the materials that S&W uses, sorry.

If they are in the white I suppose you could try a little cold blue ?

This is what I received from Smith and Wesson;

Dear Customer,
We do not sell side plates, they are factory install only. We have no suggestions on the removal of the writing.
If further assistance is required please reply accordingly.
Sincerely,
Michael DiFiore

Cold blue won't work - it is not carbon steel. Maybe something like Alumablack?

Black or gray Testor's model paint, flat if available, it's just laquer, clean all grease off , brush into engraved lines and carefully wipe off so the color remains in the lines, if you don't like it, laquer thinner, nail polish remover or acetone will remove the paint.

I would first try a permanant black Magic Marker in the lines, wiping off excess. I use it to touch up dings in my cars paint job and it lasts a surprisingly long time.

You may just have to live with it.
