my 629 has carbon on the cylinder face. i used solvent and a tooth brush, followed by scrubbing with a pencil eraser, still didn't get it all, any suggestions?

Many guys just leave the carbon ring on the face of the cylinder. Several products will remove it. Lead-Away cloths will work well on your stainless steel revolver as will Never Dull, a cotton batting metal polish. Filtz, a metal polishing paste is used by some.
 
thanks for the suggestions. turns out i have a carbonkiller dealer ten miles away.
 
Shake it up a bit first, it seems to separate after awhile.
I don't usually bother cleaning the carbon off the cylinder face but sometimes I use it to clean my revolvers up real nice.
