How good is M&P series?

No GLOCK bashing here; I've got one of each:

and like 'em both ... am probably more accurate with the GLOCK. The M&P does fit the hand better, and I'd love a full size .45 some day.

I bought the M&P9 with night sights pretty soon after it was on the market. I now own three semi-autos - M&P9, M41 and a Ruger MKIII. I no longer have any Glocks or 1911 pistols. My next M&P will be the .45. I think they have a winner. They make the Glock appear somewhat old fashioned.

As a final note, I still have all of the revolvers.

Just got an M&P 9mm and put about 190 rounds thru it Sunday. Everything from 117gr UMC to 124gr and 147gr Gold Dots, not a single burp or hiccup. Just might have to replace my XD40 with an M&P but not my two XD45s. Now if TruGlo would only come out with TFOs to fit the M&P.

I have 3 M&Ps, a full size and compact 9mm and a full size 45. Both 9s are 100% reliable but my 45 had several FTF and I sent it back to Smith. They polished the ramp and installed a new extractor and that took care of the problem. These are great pistols and my next will be the 45 Compact (soon I hope).
A couple of decades ago when revolvers were in vogue S&W dominated the police market. Now Glock has 70% of that market but I feel that Smith with their M&P series will in time regain there dominance.

I picked up a magazine (2008 Handgun?) at the airport a few months ago. It was the poly shootout between the Glock, Springfield, HK and S&W. The S&W had the superior marks.

I sold my Glock 22 to buy an MP40. Best move I've ever made. Advantages of the MP are:

Much better ergonomics
Superior grips with 3 grip adapters included
Superior sights
Much nicer magazines (all metal)
Better trigger (once it smooths out with use)

Can shoot lead or reloads with no problem (unlike Glocks)

The MP just fits my hand better, points better, is more accurate for me, absorbs recoil better (because of the ergonomic grips).

just picked up a NIB full size in .357 Sig...for 450.00 face to face in my hometown.

Cannot wait to shoot. I was considering the Glock, but will try this Smith.

I own the MP9 full and compact size. I've owned alot of polymer guns in my life, I tried to like Glocks, but couldn't for some reason. The M&P pistol is the best I've ever fired. Accurate, handles great, the whole package. Now, with that said, I cant wait to own the .45, but living in Mass, (yea I know), S&W are dragging their feet in making one for us.. I can only hope the .45 is as good as the 9..

I have owned 2 M&P's. I recently traded a 9fs in on a S&W M59 that I just had to have. the only reason that I was willing to trade the M&P 9fs is because I also have a 9c that is absolutely perfect for me. I can't compare to the other brands, but both M&P's have been 100% in function and very easy and fun to shoot.

I have a M&P 9mm that I bought when I was in a shop intending to buy a G17. I have had several Glocks over the years and considered them good pistols for what they are. The gun shop employee is an old friend and asked me if I had handled a M&P. I had not so he pulled one from the case and gave it to me. I was stunned at how much better it fit my hand. I had him change the paperwork to the M&P and left the G17 there.

I shoot the M&P better than any Glock I have ever owned. I like the trigger better. I like the grip better. I have fairly small hands and it fits me the best of any hi-cap pistol I ever had. It has been 100% reliable. I plan on getting a compact .45 when I am able. Its my favorite plastic pistol. I have had a USP and Beretta PX and a Ruger 345 and several Glocks as I have said. I like the M&P the best and its price is very competitive. The two free mags and the $50 rebate made it a very good deal. I also really like that it is USA made. That gives it some points beyond the Glock, all other factors being about equal...

How good is the M&P series?

Good enough for this old warhorse to replace his tried and true, customized Colt Lightweight Commander, caliber Winchester 9x23 with a M&P357 as his primary carry pistol. Believe me, that says a LOT!

I carry/train with a 45mp and I like it. It fits in my hands nicely and is accurate.

When we first started training with them, I liked the large hand grips, but after the hand drills and into shooting I found the medium grips suited me better. I've shot roughly a 1000 round without a single problem. It probably was the best thing my department ever bought me.

I've changed my mind, it is def. the best thing I've ever been issued.

I don't have any polymer guns, but have shot Glocks. I was in a gun shop and handled the big three compacts---Springfield, Glock 26 & the M&P 9c a year ago. Guy behind the counter said the Springfield was more reliable, more accurate, but rusted on the slide. Another customer said he liked the Glock better for reliability. I liked the FEEL of the M&P a LOT better than the others and it seems that what ever little bugs the M&Ps may have had in the beginning, they are all worked out now. The main thing, for me, is knowing that if you ever need any little thing, S&W will take care of it. Having a company like that behind you is better than the Verison Network!

My turn.

Just picked up my NIB M&P. Here are the details:

357 Sig full size (love this chambering)
No mag safety (good)
No internal lock (good)
3 hi-cap mags
rear cocking serrations only (good)
Cost me $480.00 out the door.

Now compared to other polymer pistols I find it superior in most areas. I have not fired it yet so that will be a later report.

Here is what I have owned so I can compare:

5 Glocks of all sizes and flavors ($500.00 ea)

Springfield XD in 357 Sig ($500.00)

HK P-30 ($800.00)
HK USPc ($750.00)
HK USP Tactical full size 45 ACP $1000.00)

How I see it the M&P has it over Glock as far as the sight are concerned.

Ergos....M&P beats Glock and all others except maybe the P-30

Light rail. M&P best along with P-30

They all are easy to disassemble.

M&P made in USA. I like that.

Smith customer service is supposed to be great.

Overall design, fit, finish and quality is excellent on the M&P.

Now with all these things, the kicker is the price. When price is factored in, the M&P is a clear winner in my book.

I recently tried out an M&P 9. Was very pleasant to shoot, which I attribute to it's low bore axis. My personal favorite polymer, striker fired pistol is a Steyr M40a1 however.
