How Good is Your English? (Beware! Quiz Inside!)

I had a perfect score and didn't find it difficult, although I see how many on various boards today do.

It said I should teach English. I thought of that, but I would not fare well in most modern school systems. It is one thing to know the subject, and another to tolerate the co-workers and students. My mother and my daughter taught/teach, and both confirmed my opinion of most educational bureaucrats.

Some school systems are actually dangerous, considering who the students are. I can't go into more detail here, but my mother had some students who were actually arrested for armed robbery and murder.

It's really appalling how badly many adults spell and punctuate today. It's becoming a national danger. We have people graduating high school who don't know who the US fought in WW II!

I'm very proud that both of my adult children spell and punctuate perfectly. One certainly should: she has a MA degree in Education. She's pretty smart for a blonde...

A+! Not bad for a high school drop out (or is it more accurately "kicked out?") with a law degree.

As one poster noted early on in this thread-the bar was set too low. Waaaaay toooooooo looooooooow!

How do y'all know you got ten out of ten? It don't tell you. It just says A+.

I believe I got ten out of ten, but did I really?

HellifIknow.

You have done exceptionally well on this quiz. You've scored higher than over 90% of the people who've taken the quiz. You have a natural gift of understanding language and its nuances. You're also mentally sharp. You should really consider being a language teacher!

I do think tests like this are designed to collect our personal information. Who owns that site?

Did a whois lookup. It's a protected domain, meaning the owner is anonymous. The website purports to produce "fun" social media quizzes. These quizzes that are so popular among Facebook and other social media are designed to gather Facebook user data. Posting it here is fairly harmless, but on Facebook it's bouncing around gathering data off everyone who tags or reposts it. To what end? Advertising, natch.

I almost titled the thread "How Well is Your English?" but I thought the Grammar Nazis would not get the joke and say some things that might hurt my delicate feelings! :D

I agree that it sure seems like the vast majority of folks score higher than 90% of the population. There's a Yogi Berra joke in there somewhere. :D

It might have been a little better test if it had not been multiple choice. Also, it seemed like several of the questions were essentially spelling questions (especially the one asking how to spell 'misspell'.) I think most people distinguish between spelling and grammar, but I will let the G-Nazis argue that!

Oh well, it was supposed to be fun. I hope it was! :)
