How long is your pocketknife?

SOG Flash II in my front pocket with the clip keeping it secure in the same place all the time. It has a half serrated blade of about 3" in length, maybe a tick over 4.5" closed.

I cannot seem to keep a pocket knife sharp, and I've carried many over the years. I've tried Case, Boker, Gerber, Kershaw, Sog, Buck and many others. I can get them sharp, but they don't stay sharp long.

Thinking about getting one of those belt type sharpeners.

My every day carry knife is a Case medium size stockman. It has 2 1/2 inch main blade and knife is about 3 1/2 closed. It will handle most jobs that I need a knife for. The model number is 63032.

I mostly carry the knife I designed for the Florida Highway Patrol back in 2005. Beretta made it for us. Only the FHP Academy or the FHP Store could order them from Beretta.

I worked with Beretta since they were the provider of the Patrol's current and previous issue handguns.

This knife is of the liner lock design and has laser etched Florida Highway Patrol Patch plus a removable pocket clip

The knife blade is of the Tanto shape but half serrated to aid in rapidly cutting seat belts

Black was chosen as the finish of the knife and blade

There are Teflon washers placed between the blade and the bolsters. The pivot point of the knife does not need oil.

The blade is 3 7/8" long and the knife has an overall open length of 8 3/4"

As a result of this collaboration, Beretta created the Law Enforcement Knife program with our Florida Highway Patrol knife as the cover photo

The one pictured above is obviously new. The one I carry shows considerable finish wear from being carried almost 15 years now

They did not go over as big with the troopers as I had hoped. You know how it is, buy that point in your career most folks already had knives that they liked.

Beretta discontinued the program several years back and these are no longer produced.

While we are on the topic of blade length, I think some states set a legal limit on the length of a knife blade that you can carry without it being classified as a weapon. I cannot find anything in the laws of my present state, but I recall that some previous states I lived in had a blade length limit of 3.25 or 3.5 inches. Anything longer could potentially get you into trouble for carrying a weapon.

I carry a Camillus StreamLine pen knife with a 2 1/2 “ main blade and a 1 1/4” spay blade made in the mid 1930’s.

Works great for my needs. I’ve even field dressed deer with it.

No need for anything newer or bigger.

That's the main reason I had the blade shortened on my Delica, for those locations with more restrictive laws/rules. I jokingly refer to it as my "Post Office" knife since the maximum length blade you can carry in a PO is 2.5". I originally had it done specifically for those situations, but I like the profile so much it's become my EDC even if I can carry something longer.

I carry the one the NRA sent me for renewing. It's about 2-1/2 or 3" long. I'll carry it till I lose it or wreck it. The other day I used it to dig ginseng. Back home I ran it on the leather sander belt and it will shave again.

I EDC two pocket knives. Usually a SAK with a blade of 2.5" and a Boker switchblade with a similar sized blade.

Sometimes I switch off to larger knives than the Boker.

Especially since I misplaced that thing over the weekend so I am carrying a Kershaw "Hinderer" design, 3"+ and I carried my Longhorn yesterday, which is for sure 3"+.

Now that I think about it, I carry 3 knives every day. A Christy sliding blade knife is always attached to my car keys.

Usually a folder with a blade around 3". Today it's a Benchmade Mini-Griptilian with D2 steel. Yesterday it was a Spyderco Mantra with M4 steel.

I'll also carry a smaller knife in my opposite pocket, too. Usually that's a Case Peanut or Pen knife.

Texas used to have blade length limits but the last legislature, I think it was the last one, removed knives in general from the prohibited weapons list so you can now carry any knife, including things that won't go in your pocket, like big Bowie knives. I have not seen anyone carry a knife that large but 4" or even 5" fixed blades are not uncommon.

Most of my EDC folders have blades in the 3.5" vicinity, but the one I carry the most is a Grayman Dua with a 3" cutter.

Due to Michigan's rather confusing knife laws concerning what's legal to conceal "with bad intentions" so to speak, I limit my pocket knives to 3" blades.
Benchmade Criterion auto or SAK Soldier.
