How many ccw while riding Motorcycles?

My wife & I ride, she on her own bike. We take a lot of 3-4000 mile trips through other states. Her concerne is, how to carry incase she wrecks the bike. Will she be likely to get shot by the AD? will the gun come loose from her person & be lost? It doesn't bother me. if I come off that Harley, my gun is the last thing I'm worried about. Also, traveling through a non-reciprical state, do you take the ammo and store it on one bike and the guns on the other? Our instructor(a LEO)didn't know. We plan on traveling with our 642's this summer. Thanks for your input.

Have never, ever seen or heard of an AD resulting from any type of collision or accident. There have been incidents of ammo cooking off but never whilst in a gun in my experience.

In any event, I think what happens to the gun is of minimal consequence if you wreck your bike.

Always carry when on 2 wheels, (except in the few states where it is not legal) Never have worried about AD. Have not (and don't plan) on having an accident. I most always carry on my person and not somewhere on the bike. My question is, could anyone really use a weapon while operating a motorcycle? I don't think that would be possible or safe. Best to use the bike to "get out of Dodge". Hard to hide a gun in the summer when wearing T-shirt and Jeans. When you stop for food/fuel etc. most of us take off the jacket or other protective gear where the gun is most likely to be. In an open parking lot you really don't want to be transferring a gun from your jacket to your jeans. Bikes and CCW can and are a bit of a problem.

There are leather motorcycle vests out there designed for CCW... Do a search on google and you'll find em!!! I had a holster sewn into my vests inner pocket,, worked fine!!! Its the rest stops where you may need it (weapon)...

I always have my 442 with me when I ride. Shooting and riding at the same time is not something I consider practical or safe, but easy access when I'm stopped IS important to me. I stow it my tank bag sometimes, and other times I have it in my jacket pocket. For me, access is quicker from my tank bag which has extra large zipper pulls that I can get in and out of quickly with leather gloves on (I have a Marsee). Downside is that I have to discretely transfer it when I leave the bike. Regardless of where I put it, it is always in a pocket holster that covers the trigger guard. If you do keep it in a pocket, don't put anything else in there with it. I have never heard of an unintentional discharge while riding or in a get-off, but I'm sure anything is possible given the right circumstances.

These folks make some very nice vests, but they don't give them away!

Howdy neighbor. I'm in Wichita. we will be riding to Cassoday this Sunday, but our permits have not come yet so we'll be unarmed.

Look into getting a Florida permit...even the OOS Florida permit is honored by a lot of states that are not covered by many other state permits.

I did a trip from NH to Idaho a few years ago and only had to store the gun for one or two states as I recall. Look for a small lock box called AACFI (American Association of Firearms Instructors) Secure-It handgun safe. It is small, slim and has a security cable that will lock to anything. It is about the size of a paperback book and will hold up to a Colt Commander size gun...

Thanks SuperMan for the info on the little gun box. those look perfect for bike trips. We could get a matched set keyed alike, one for each bike/gun. We already use the cable style gun locks for securing helmets from just walking away. One of those tucked into the T-bag connected to an additional calble connected to the bike would get us through states we can't carry through. Otherwise, the holster sewn into the vest will work. The vest rarely comes off durring a ride. Probably on the weak side crossdraw.

I carry a M60 J frame IWB most all of the time. It sits right over my right rear outside pocket seam. I use the cheap holsters sold by Dillon because it lets the gun set deeper in the holster with the cylinder under the belt. Never had a problem and don’t have to be worried about leaving the gun behind or transferring it.

Modern double action guns are not like the old single action guns where the gun could accidentally fire if it was dropped on the hammer. I would be willing to bet you could throw a 642 off of a tall building all day long until there was nothing left of it but pieces and then you could pound the remaining pieces with a sledge hammer and it still wouldn't accidentally fire.

Just don't EVER carry through NY State if you don't have a NY permit! If they find one in your possession, such as after an accident, you will probably be in jail charged with felony possession! They are totally unreasonable there.

We ususally have 10 to 15 bikes. There's only one other I know of that carrys, maybe 2. That's one place I don't feel a strong need to be armed, but you never know. It is as some one else said , the stops are where you're likely to need the gun.

Fortunately most of my interstate travelling is withing the adjacent states and all of them but one have reciprocity. I have pockets in every bit of riding gear I have, it's rare I have to transfer anything. With a 340PD, it's so light it can go just about anywhere. Most of the time it's in a cargo pocket on my pants, in cold weahter in my motorcycle jacket and if I am not wearing full gear an akle holster does the trick nicely. It was a bit more of a challenge when I was toting around a Glock 27 everywhere, but now with a super lightweight piece that can fit in my back pocket if needed, it's a breeze. I even take the thing dual sporting on fire roads and old logging trails. Been hit by trees and rocks and no AD and I agree with a previous poster, with a hammerless model there would have to be a miracle for an AD.

I carry at all times. When wearing chaps my 642 is in the inside pocket of my jacket in a Desantis pocket holster. Without chaps it's in my the front pocket of my jeans in a$Mika.

Under Federal law, a firearm may be transported interstate from any place it is legal to any other place it is legal as long as it is unloaded and cased and out of reach. Federal law prevails over state law because it involves interstate movement. I carry a copy of the relevant federal regulations when transporting.
