How many guns do you carry on a daily basis for CCW? Is two or more overkill ? What calibers do you prefer? I personally carry an XD-9 SC and I am buying an LCR .38+P. I'll probably buy an LCP or an LC9 before the year ends! I gotta say, I LOVE RUGERS & S&W.

I typically carry two, a Beretta PX4 Compact 9mm loaded with 147gr HST in a Kramer IWB#3 horsehide holster and a S&W 642-1 loaded with 135gr SB-GDHP in a Wilderness Tactical Renegade ankle holster.

As to whether two or more are too much, that'll depend on your personal situation. For me, I went with my set-up because I wanted to be able to access a gun while seated, particularly in a car. AIWB or crossdraw would be good options, but neither work for me. Strongside IWB could work, but may require some contortions to get to the gun. I don't want to leave a gun in the car if I can avoid it and I'd rather not deal with unholstering/reholstering in the car. Ankle carry gives me a more accessible gun while seated in the car. But it's not very accessible at other times, and obviously doesn't allow for drawing while moving, so I ankle carry in addition to IWB. Plus, guns, being mechanical devices, have the potential to fail at any time, even if they run reliably and haven't failed before. The odds of both guns failing at the same time would be pretty low, I think.

So, I think it's a good idea to consider. For example, if you wear heavy clothing during the winter, it may make sense to keep a snubby BUG in a jacket pocket for easier accessibility if you carry a sidearm under your jacket.

But I certainly don't think it's a necessity. It may be too much work for some people. For me, it's no problem carrying 2 guns with my set-up. Of course, there are times when I only have my 642 in an IWB holster, and times when I don't have a gun on me at all.

In the woods, 2. A rifle and whichever pistol I choose that day. Usually that's a 300 Weatherby Magnum with a 3" Model 29-3 during deer season, or a 22WMR bolty with a 4" Model 48-4 in the Spring. If I'm just woods walking I'll usually carry a short barreled .38 or .357. Something light.

I try not to put myself in situations where I'd need more than one gun in the city :)

Back in the bad old days in some bad old towns, I sometimes carried two. I was very into the potential advantages of a New York reload. :) These days, old and deep into retirement and rarely going anyplace considered overly dangerous, one is plenty. :D

For years, two. Like Continental OP, I use a J Frame (currently a Magnaport custom 342) in an ankle holster for the same reasons. The primary for now is my Weigand custom 642 shown in my avatar. If I change, the 642 will go to BUG. I've owned and carried it, either primary or as BUG, since 1998 and it's never missed a beat. I've seen too much to completely depend on an auto, even when I was required to carry one. Like Chino74, I also carry a good folding knife but mostly as a tool although it could be used to say get off me loudly and clearly.

Just one for me. It's a 640 Pro. 5 .357 magnums travelling at 1320 fps ought to be enough. If I feel I might need more I'm breaking in a CZ 75 B for carry.

two. Primary (9mm, .40, .357 sig, .45acp) backed-up by my LCP .380. On occasion, my back-up is a small 9mm.

I dress around the gun (& other accessories).

But I'm sure someone will come along shortly and say "I won't live or travel to a place were I would need two guns". Because crime only happens in certain areas, & not the fantasy land they live in.

Two. A main and a backup.

Lately I've been carrying a S&W SW40VE and a Ruger LCP as a backup.

Fresh from my pocket.

After I realized just how much pocket lint was caked up in the little nooks and crannies of my LCP, then cleaned it up. (This is why you should regularly clean your carry guns.)

I used to carry just one, with the LCP being a Summer Carry, but it's just so darn light and easy to carry that I started taking it along with me as well as a full-size during Fall/Winter when I could carry something larger.

I have been known to carry a gun ... usually something small and light, either a G-22 or a Sig. 226 or a RIA 1911. If I'm feeling tired, I'll carry something small ... like a K-frame in some sociable caliber like .38 Special ... or .357 S&W Magnum. I have to carry such little light weight pistols when I'm out in the woods b/c I am usually carrying a M-1 Garand in my hands. Although if I've been watching to much Rawhide I'll sometimes opt for a carbine ... .30-30 Marlin 336 Waffle Top. Lately I've been thinking about making some changes. I think a nice Hi-Power might be handy. Stick it in my hip pocket till I can find a good holster. Should be fine for whatever I'm likely to run up against. Sincerely. bruce. :-)

Normally, just one handgun. It depends what I'm wearing. Sometimes I'll carry an LCP .380, sometimes a 2½-inch barreled Model 19, and sometimes I'll toss a 4-inch barreled Model 15 in the truck. It just depends.

But, that being said, I've got a rifle with me in the pickup a lot of the time. I never leave it in there, but when I'm driving about, I will often have it handy to take care of coyotes or whatever. Usually it's my Rossi Model '92 with a 16-inch barrel chambered in .45 Colt.

When I horseback, if I feel the need for another firearm besides my sidearm, which is a Ruger Balckhawk in .45 Colt, I'll pack the rifle in a scabbard.

Generally I carry a M431PD in 32 Magnum. Critical Defense ammo, 6 shot. I also carry an 8 round speed strip as a reload.

I also have an LCR 327 and when I carry it, it's loaded with 327 Mag Hydra Shok or Gold Dot. It can also shoot 32 Magnum so I use the same reload.

When I put these guns on my carry license, I figured I could carry both. The LCR as main and the M431 as backup -- it I ever went anywhere risky.

But it turns out, I've never felt the need for more than one gun. So the two gun plan hasn't happened.

Short answer: One

As a civilian now I carry one gun on my person. Mostly it's been a Shield 9 V1. I'm thinking of switching back to my XDs45 as it carries very easily too, and shoots nice. Plus it's a 45 and I still like large bullets. There's also others in the rotation including 1911s and Glocks (a 19 and a 40). Occasionally there is another gun in my truck.

Wow, a 45 Colt would kill and field dress a coyote all at the same time. Years ago, I had a suspect sic a Doberman on me and a 125 gr hard cast LSWHP 357 just about did that to him and I remember him as bigger than most coyotes I have seen.
