This leads me to another question, If "Non Gun People" asking you this question pisses you off why do keep putting yourself in a position that almost guarantees they're going to ask?
It's like the old joke "Dr. it hurts when I do this." and the Doctor replies "So don't do that."
It's never strangers. It's always people who know me and my hobby and my politics. It's just a rude question. I always give the same answer.

I'm hovering around 20. Revolvers, semi auto pistols, pistol carbines, bolt rifles, lever rifles, pump and semi shotguns, semi-auto rifles/carbines. I like to have at least one of each.
I have a moratorium on spending, and it looks like it's going to stay that way for a while.

I have heard that many times. It sounds good, but most folks I know that have only one, haven't even shot it. Or only did the week they bought it. It is us gun nuts that live at the gun range one should be concerned with knowing how to use it.

I have noted on more than one occasion that that is incorrect. This Forum includes collectors and accumulators and I daresay that the average member of this Forum owns dozens of guns. The rare exceptions are the ones who own less than twenty.
If you are afraid of entities monitoring this Forum, you ought not to be on it - although, clearly, most of us use made-up names, so those horrible monitoring entities have to do a lot of work to figure out who each of us is.
For the record, as an accumulator and maybe a collector, I have at least 6 dozen guns, probably a dozen more that I can't think of, and I don't care who knows it. When I was shooting cowboy action I'd talk to guys who owned 200 or 300 guns and we all would say it out loud. Who cares? I'm not a criminal and the Federales are not looking for me!

By the stroke of a pen (or fiat)) you could be determined to be "in the business" and in arrears in taxes, requiring you to lawyer up and be licensed, meet storage requirements, and subject to visits from from representatives of various alphabet agencies. All of those thing will cost you a lot of money.
