When I stay at a motel, I usually leave 2-3 bucks with a note saying "Thanks". Does anyone else do this? I don't stay at top of the line places, usually a Days Inn or the like. I suspect these maids work for bottom dollar and appreciate a tip, however small.

As long as I can remember, I've always left a tip for the hotel maid-usually $2 per day or a five spot for the seekend. These girls do some scut work and in my opinion deserve every penny of the tip.

I will leave $3. I always get my rooms through Priceline...so I save a good amount and think it is the right thing to so.

Me too - $3/day with a note.
I guess I'd leave the remaining beer too - If any was ever remaining...

Is that possible?

First time I did it I couldn't believe how much better the room seemed and how polite everybody got. A few dollars go a long way with hotel staff.

When I travel I take $2 bills with me. I leave one or two every day of my stay. I have also used them as tips at restaurants.

I usually don't unless I left a pretty bad mess. I really never even think about leaving a tip.

Last place I stayed was 144 dollars a night. For that money they should tuck me in, bathe me, shave me and brush my teeth for me. 144 dollars, PLUS room taxes. And I should leave a tip?

Always leave a good tip and thank you note if room is nice and clean. House keeping is a hard and thank less job. Many people staying in the rooms are real slobs and seem to enjoy leaving their room a total mess. Real pigs!

We always leave a tip and and thank you. I am sure the cleaning crew makes minimum wage - and it always seemed like the right thing to do.

I leave $2.50 a day and a thank you note. yes, it's amazing how much nicer the room is kept for me, and they always leave those neat little bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion.

When I check out a always leave any un opened food or beverages.

I usually leave a tip on the last day of my stay. I remember a vacation many years ago at a nice, but not high end, water front hotel. Every day when we returned from breakfast our room would be clean and the bedding changed, and there would be a different animal made from a towel on our bed. I mentioned to the desk clerk how amazing some of them were. He said our housekeeper was from Haiti or Somalia or some such place, and knew how to make many different things out of towels. We left her a nice tip for the clean room and towel origami she surprised us with every day. From what I hear, this is popular on cruise ships.

This is a great policy. My sainted mother-in-law, bless her heart, was a head housekeeper at a major hotel at a beach and they were usually paid bad and unappreciated. I would always tip the housekeeper the first day and ask for extra towels and they are so thankful. I promise they will treat you right.

Also, it's just the right thing to do.

I've always done it in the states, but didn't know that it was rarely done in Europe. I was staying at a Sheridan in Tel Aviv for a few days and each morning before I left for work, I'd make the bed and clean up all my mess - plus leave a American money tip. It was obviously noticed because the service became fantastic, and it was already good.
