How many moon clips is too many? I have (52) TK moon clips for the 625-6, 25-13, 325 thunder ranch, and the Governor! I also have 12 rimz moon clips. 28ish for now for the 610-3

Do you guys with soooo many m/c's stop to eat or drink when shooting all of them up? I go to the range to enjoy myself, shoot some, reload some and bs along the way. Tackleberry must have more off spring than I thought...

Well I usually have friends go with me and they always want to shoot my revolvers and like to have 5 or so loaded up for each one I shoot

When I go to the range, I just go to enjoy myself. Sometimes I just shoot, other times I take breaks, maybe have a conversation if anyone else is around. I usually take more loaded MC's and magazines than I will use.
I have been known to take 60 loaded MC's and about as many magazines with me.

A spare gun is great at the range. Even a fluted bull barrel likes to rest. Have watched people shoot so many rounds through an AK, then sit it leaning poorly against the muzzle to cool off. Not every barrel is the same. Not every AK is the same

It is good to sit a guitar on a stand, or in its case, for obvious reasons.

Some ranges do not allow loaded magazines for walk-in. Learned to read the rules well long ago. One may run out of loaded mags or clips IRL, and it is good to reload when not always in the comfort of one's home. Just sayin'.

Years ago I bought a box of full moon clips for my 1917. I also got a half box of half moon clips. This was at an old school LGS: one man shop. The owner had been throwing them in a shoebox when they came with collections he bought over the years.

I think I paid $20 for them all. I think I’ve got several hundred all together.

I have 300 full moons from Brownell's (bags of 100). I load up full 50 cal ammo cans. These are for my 1917 & 625 of 1989.

I do have a few full moons with SD loads.

I have a set of "Mooners" & "Demooners" in each shooting bag.

I view moon clips like the 10 rnd clips for the M14/M16, buy in bulk and stack them deep. If you use them, more is better. Sometimes you lose one or bend one or give one to your shooting buddy. Next thing you know you run out of them. Therefore, just keep buying them.

I have around 100 full moons a few 1/2 moons and some 2 moons. When I carry a 325 I carry 1/2 moons for reloads because they are not as bulky. If I go to the range I have a piece off hard wood with dowels sticking up out of, that the full moons go on. That fits in a normal steel ammo box. Lot of rounds convenient. Pick up empties 6 at a time and toss them in a container and de clip and refill at home.

People complaining that clips are a pain. LOL, I never mess with them at the range. I have good tools to declip and load clips. I do that at home as part of the reloading process for most of my 45acp

I have nearly twenty ACP revolvers. I like to have 20-25 for each one. Of course when a deal comes along I grab them.

I rarely go to a range but often spend time hiking my property or my neighbors and engaging targets of opportunity from field positions. For those times, if I go through 3 full clips, it is a lot of shooting. Occasionally, I will go to an acquaintance’s home and we will shoot on his property or range. There, I always carry more, maybe 25 for each revolver so we can enjoy shooting. When I competed, if I did not have enough to shoot the events twice, I felt unprepared.

Why so many? Once, I drove to Michigan to compete. Packed the night before, got up early and grabbed my shooting box and drove. Got to the match, paid my entry, hauled my stuff to the table and realized my ammunition was back home, many hours away. A fellow competitor saw me packing up and asked why. I told him. He said wait, walked away and returned with enough ammunition to shoot the whole match. I beat him by one point, or maybe one X, I don’t remember. I asked him why he staked me the ammunition. His answer, “you are the only competition I have”. I learned from that experience. That is why I carried what I did to matches. I was able to help others twice before I quit.

I haven’t counted mine since I picked up a few more for both calibers, but I think I have about 65 10mm moons and about 80 .45ACP moons. I have 2 610’s and a Ruger SRH in 10mm and a 625 and two 1917’s in .45ACP. I recently learned that the 610 clips would work in the SRH, but not vice versa because of the smaller hole in the Ruger clips. But I’ve only got the five clips that came with the SRH, so win-win there.

Like steelslaver, I made a piece of wood with dowel rods sticking up, but on a smaller scale that fits in one of the $5 harbor freight plastic ammo cans. They only hold 48, so I’m planning on making a few more.

I’ve never run into the situation that YeshuaIsa53 mentioned, re: not being able to take loaded moonclips into a range. At least two that specified “no loaded magazines” didn’t bat an eye at the loaded moons. In fact, they thought my moonclip holder in an ammo can idea was pretty cool. So, evidently, at least those two ranges don’t treat loaded moons the same way as loaded magazines. But like YeshuaIsa53 said, best to double-check if that’s all you’re planning on shooting that day. It would really suck having to demoon and remoon the whole shebang at the range.

The range near me has that rule. I assume it's because they are also a pawn shop. Though I've never had them ask or check my range bag, I still obey the rule and arrive with everything unloaded.

I have zero moon clips since I don't have a revolver in a caliber that requires them. :(

My 640 Pro came with three moon clips. I've never used them, so I guess in my case three was too many. :)

I’ve got a 640 pro also and found the moonclips to be too flexible with the .357 cases to be practical. I do have moonclipped rounds in there normally, which helps with a quick, positive extraction. But then I use a speed strip for reloads due to the overly flexible clips.

I think moonclips really come into their own when used with semi auto cartridges like 9mm, 10mm, and .45ACP. These moonclips are much more rigid and make for a quick reload.
