I guess it all depends on what and where I'm driving.

In my empty PU or car on the freeway its +8 mph.
Around town I do the speed limit.

Wit the camper on my truck and I'm on the freeway with a speed limit of 80 mph I set the cruise at 70 mph. If I'm on a two lane HWY and the speed limit is 65 I set the cruise at 70 mph. The truck seems to like 70 mph with the camper.

I live about 25 miles outside of the main city here in south central rural Utah.

If I take my car on the freeway into town where the speed limit is 80 mph my car gets about 21 mpg.

If I take the old HWY through 3 different towns with speed limits of 45, 55 and 60 mph I get between 27-29 mpg so I take the old HWY.

As long as you don't take forever to pass and clear the lane I have no problem. But if you drive in formation like you are a member of the Thunderbirds or Blue Angels, then we are going to have a problem. The passing lane is for passing, not riding in formation with another slower driver!

As for me and the speed limit, I generally drive around 5 mph over the speed limit on 4 lane roads and generally right around the speed limit in towns except for a few that are known speed trap towns. One such town is Golden Meadow, LA and has been known for speed trapping since before I was born. If the speed limit says 45 mph, set your cruise control at 44 mph there.

I usually drive close to or at the speed limit. Years of holding a CDL that I needed for my job kept me pretty honest. The last 10 years or so our trucks were equipped with GPS trackers and were zealously monitored by the office. Disobeying traffic laws was a violation of our safety manual and subject to disciplinary action. Plus we had an annual DMV heck to ensure that we reports any speeding tickets.

Muddocktor, another well known speed trap in south Louisiana is Hwy 167 through Maurice between Lafayette and Abbeville.
