how many rounds can you put through a 15-22 before your going to need to replace the barrel a guy i was speaking to said 30,000 was just wondering if anyone has some further knowledge of this as im new to shooting?

Guy at Olympic Arms told me their barrels were not chrome-lined but estimated 30,000 to 40,000 round life

how would you know when you need a new barrel, just when your accuracy turns to **** :D
i was not even aware barrels could only take so many rounds until today

I've got about 30k through mine. Shoots the same now as it did when I got it... though I wasn't too thrilled with how it shot when I got it. :D

Jesus...Have owned mine since November and barely getting to 2,000!

You need to get out more Ive had mine about 4-5 weeks and already have almost 3000rds!

A friend of mine shoots competition .22 and told me you can't shoot out a .22 barrel.

Center fire rifles are a different story. Approximately around 10,000 rounds they'll start losing accuracy but it's pretty tough for us ordinary folks to be able to buy enough center fire ammo and have the time to burn out a barrel.

Some can go a lot quicker than that. Depends on the cartridge and pressure and barrel material. A .22LR doesn't create enough pressure or the hot gasses created by a stoked center fire cartridge, which is really what makes for a shorter barrel life.

This same exact question just popped into my mind today actually! But Arizona98tj is right on about the .22

Even though the two might be synonymous, not sure about the pressure but I do know high velocity calibers are known for burning through barrels much faster than anything else. The most notorious has been the .220 swift. Probably partially due to it being the first super-high velocity cartridge at a time when manufacturing wasn't ready for it, but I think the same premise still applies. Higher velocity=shorter barrel life.

I have an old Winchester .22 my dad got used in the 60's or 70's and I wouldn't be surprised if it has 50k rounds or more through it... Still the most accurate .22 I've ever shot

there was a guy who wrote an article about a nylon 66................... nevermind here is an excerpt

"In 1959, over a period of 14 days, Remington's exhibition shooter Tom Frye shot at 100,010 wood blocks thrown into the air, using two Model 66s. He hit all but six and had no malfunctions." 100000 rounds in 14 days, i dont think you need to worry about a .22 barrel

WoW! I have not seen a mention of the nylon 66 in years. I had one of those when I was a kid. Almost 10 years ago now I saw some of them at a local gun show, the guy had about 50 of them stacked up in all different conditions and was selling them for $10.00 each.

It was a great little .22. When I was a kid, my uncle owned a sporting goods store where we lived, he would give us all the .22 ammo we wanted for free, and gave each of us kids a nylon 66. He had one storage room full of nothing but nylon 66's and crates of .22 ammo, the nylon 66 sold like hotcakes for him and almost every one in the area had one. I must have put at least 20,000 rounds a month thru that thing for years.

Yeah, Ive got my great grandfathers Rem.510 TM. Probably 2-300000 rounds through it. Still shoots 5 shot nickles.

In other words, you'll probably wear out the polymer before the barrel.
