How many who went to a red dot increase their HG accuracy by a minimum of 50% or more first shots

I put a green dot on all three of my HGs. (G19 MOS, G43X MOS M&P 5.7) Before theses, I owned a G34 Gen 3 for a few years. Did a lot of research on dots, and decided to trade in the G34 for the G19 Gen 5 MOS and put a Holosun SCS on it. My accuracy went up substantially. I still practice using the Co-Witness iron sites.

I don’t like them on my carry guns period and quite honestly I don’t enjoy them that much at the range. I built some Springfield Prodigy’s and have 2 commanders and 2 fullsized, a Leupold red dot on one of each. I don’t find that I shoot any better, faster, or more accurate. I must admit that I only put a couple hundred rounds through each red dot pistol and have 10s of thousands without. The reasons I don’t have more rounds through the red dots is I just don’t enjoy shooting them and they didn’t make me a better shooter. Best shooting aid is a gold bead. Your mileage may very but this was my experience.

In a hurry, you only have one hand on the gun and you point the front of the gun at the fellow who is going to fire at you in .05 seconds. The only thing you have time for, is the front of your gun (front sight) and then fire.

Anything that slows you down from that instant firing, is a death trap. If the dot sight requires extra time to focus on that front sight, then you lose if that is the time frame, simple math, simple physics.

On a non carry gun, who cares. It if helps, go for it. Guns for fun are different than guns for survival, they are never exactly the same. That said, nobody reading this is likely to ever have that actual event, so just buy what you want, put it on your guns and enjoy them.

Dots are marvelous devices for many purposes and I use them frequently -more than scopes- on long guns. I do not find dots to be appropriate for concealed carry, particularly of pocket pistol-size guns, due to the range at which those guns are intended to be used.

While dots do not add value for me on small concealed guns, I do not criticize others who have positive opinions of dots on such guns. However, I am thoroughly disgusted by dot evangelists who are arrogant enough to condemn anyone who dares to not pledge allegiance to dots in any and all situations.
