This question was asked on rec.guns and the average answer was about 7k rounds with the big boys having 10 times that amount.

Max, "Sweet Mercy"... I just new I would be under stocked compared to those big boys... Good Gawd.... jack

Several thousand rounds each of 9mm and 38 Special. About 700-800 rounds of 40 S&W. A combined total of around 3,000 rounds of 357, 10mm, 45 ACP, 30 Carbine, and 32 Mag. At least 2,000 rounds of quality 22 LR match ammo. I am adding ammo all the time when I find a real deal. Ammo prices are so out of control and I don't see them coming down anytime soon.

I honestly have no idea. I filled two trash cans with it at one point and collapsed the shelving in my closet. I have around 75 AR mags (including a Beta C Mag) and about 25 assorted Hi Cap Mini 14 mags. I make sure that I have enough .223 to fill them all up on hand at any given time. Add to that 700 odd rounds of .30-30, 1200 or so .308, a "couple" thousand 9mm, somewhat less .45, about 1200 or so .40SW, just under a thousand .30-06 (most on Garand clips), 700 or so .38 and .357... All the way down to 40 rounds of .458 Winchester Mag in case there is an elephant stampede.

I don't really stock-pile ammo. I stock up on powder and primers. Well, I always keep a half dozen bricks of 22 LR around. I keep a flat of shotgun shells with #6 shot in 12, 16 and 20 gauges, but that is just because I get a discount buying it in flats. I still have two wire bound cases of LC Ball in Garand clips, but those are just left overs from my precision rifle days. I also have a case of 45 match from the same era. I reload in batches of 500 and keep one batch in reserve. So there is always plenty of 32 WCF, 38 Special, 45 ACP, etc around.

DANG, when you start adding it up maybe I do stock-pile

most of mine is in mil ammo cans, bout 6 months ago took each can and dumped it on a scale, ended up with 2427 pounds of ammo.plus the 24,000 rounds I have in MTM boxes on shelves. probably more than enough, but I will gather more. jwr

I have very little on hand compared to the stuff in this thread. I guess I have a supply rather than a stock-pile.

A few thousand 5.56mm (XM193 and Q3131/Q3131A) bought when the gettin' was good.

Hundreds of Georgia Arms 10mm Gold Dot 180s.

Hundreds of factory .38/.357 and 9mm.

Hundreds of .45ACP handloads.

Hundreds of factory 12-ga target and field loads, plus slugs and buckshot.

And components to make at least as many as the above all on my own. (Except for the buck and slugs)

I'm gonna start buying up .22LR Federals just to have on hand.

I'm a small time ammo guy.

I said that in all seriousness. From what I read on a fairly regular basis on many shooting forums, it seems like approximately 3,000 loaded rounds is considered a rather small cache of ammunition.

10,000 rounds of center fire of all types. Plus a pile of 22's. I shoot 1-2000 center fire a month. Plus 22's. This keeps the ammo turn over to about every 6 months.

While I don't quite have the numbers as other members here, I have spread out my stash in a few strategic places...bedroom, basement, office, closet, and a few boxes in my vehicle. I'm concerned that when the S**t hits the fan, I may not be close to a single stash hideout and there may be a need to bugout ASAP.

I have a Dillon 550B, several thousand cases of the appropriate calibers, 20,000 fresh Federal Primers (and several thousand others) and enough powder together with nearly a ton of lead (I cast my own bullets). That should keep me going for the next few years. I also have a couple of cases of .22's.

I like to consider myself independent of ammo supplies...
