Mine was absolutely incredible! I flew up to visit my son in Virginia Beach on Thursday night. This is the first time I’ve really had to spend any time with him since he graduated OCS. He is settling in nicely to Navy life, though he will be attending schools through at least spring. Friday morning, he took me to see the Naval History Museum at Hampton Roads. I didn’t realize the WisKy was there, and man, I have always wanted to go on an Iowa class battle wagon! We wandered around the ship for like three hours. Great museum too, I whole heartedly encourage anyone with any interest in Naval history to go.

We went shooting on Saturday and Sunday because I shipped way too much ammo up to him and the range lanes were limited to one hour and we still had ammo left over. On Saturday night, we watched the FSU-LSU matchup (Josh is an FSU alum and rabid Seminole fan) That game had to be one of the most exciting edge of the seat down to the wire games I have EVER seen. I am so glad I got to watch it with him.

On Sunday after shooting, we drove up to Richmond because I always wanted to visit the Confederate Capital. We did some sight seeing and I was able to meet up with an older gentleman that I had been corresponding with who was a reloader and was liquidating his inventory in preparation to move to an assisted living facility. I got a stellar deal on some boolits for a little over 5 cents each and bought several thousand. Even with shipping back to Florida, they are less than seven cents each.

We were also able to take in a couple of movies. Both of us had put off seeing the new Top Gun movie so we could watch it together. Great movie and I’m glad I waited. We also went out and watched “Bullet Train”; it was so-so, but entertaining. We also ate out a lot since there was so much within walking distance of his apartment. It was an expensive holiday and I’ll have to curtail my shooting a bit for a couple months, but like my dad would say, I wouldn’t have traded it for all the tea in China!

Nice.

Mine was shooting my new Glock 45 MOS, mow the lawn, grill steak, drink beer, watch football and baseball, and sleep in a little.

Monday was go shopping as it was a total washout in my neck of Penn's Woods.

PS - that FSU/LSU game was one for the ages. Nice to see the 'Noles retrun to their winning ways.

OP congrats to you on a remarkable weekend.

It was just me and the boys for the most part as Ruthie worked five 12 hour days this week. She is off tomorrow. The weather is expected to be nice so we will have a small family cookout and let her decompress.

Like QD we watched ball games, enjoyed mass quantities and the boys honed their beer bearing skills.

Life is good.

I had a fun weekend and put a lot of miles on the Batmobile. One of my cousins was getting married on the Saturday and since it was a long trip going diagonally across PA I used Friday for driving up. I made a slight detour to a big gun shop in the middle of the Commonwealth. I figured it was too far for a special trip so I decided to make visiting the gun shop a part of the trip for the wedding.

I got to hang out with my brother and his girlfriend and my aunt (the bride's mother). The day after the wedding I drove across northern PA to go to the Zippo Lighter/Case Knives Museum and Store. I described my visit in the thread I started about my visit there.

Since I don't like driving at night through areas that I don't know I had a room waiting for me for Sunday night in Clearfield, PA. After a 4 hour drive on Monday I made it home. I was sure glad that I bought this car before all the economic craziness started because it really made for a comfortable drive. PA is a bigger state than you might imagine.

Saturday=nice......... Dinner at "The Lodge at Indian Lake"
Sunday= nice to wet........ folks over for a fire (propane fire pit w/ 10' ceiling) on the porch.

I smoked some ribs and had a wonderful day, even though the papers were not exactually what I expected. (Please, I joke about that stuff, but that's almost all I do with it.) Got all my grass cut, much trimming & weed-whacking. Wish these guys would come & get the fence put up. Heck, it's paid for! I miss my dad. This is about the time o' year when he had his Christmas in summer. Natasha and her kids rode out with me to shoot guns. Tasha is a dead shot with her new 442. Grandson Keegan still a dead eye with the Marlin .22, and Kinsey needed no help with it either. Showed my friend how to shoot, etc., the 1911. All in all a good trip out to the farm!! It's a good place to look for a house, one story high for the little woman! Privacy for me & whatever .

I never go anywhere on these 3 day weekends. Too many others out and about. Bar B Q'd each day. High school football Fri. night and college on Sat. on the radio. Hung out with Pops(he's 94)and watched some football too. Worked on a re-modeling project. Calm is good.

WET. Hunting friend and I did take a 2 hour ride to look at an older pop up camper we were thinking about buying and placing on a large property we hunt, as a base camp. Glad we checked it in the heavy rain - It leaked like a sieve.

Nice! Family time is always the BEST! The wife and I stayed home all weekend and listened to the boats tearing up the lake. We shot, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Grilled each night and cocktails on the deck. Our little slide of heaven!

Regards from the Commonwealth,
Rick Gibbs

I've noticed no one mentioned giving homage to the union and labor movement in their celebration activities . I know I didn't.

I think Labor Day to most Americans (those who actually even consider the holiday) think of as the unofficial end of summer.

A bit disappointed

I decided to break one of my rules, and watch a football game. The OSU, Notre Dame game, with my wife.

My wife is an OSU football fan, but I quit watching Football, when it became obvious to me that all organized sports are highly influenced by crooks in Vegas.

My wife and I watched that game. We were thrilled with the theatrics, of the ballplayers, the coaching, the officiating, and the score of the game, but I was very disappointed, that none of the halftime program was shown. For many OSU fans, myself included, the halftime show is just as entertaining, and important as the game. The “Best Damn Band in the land”, traditionally puts on quite a show. In its stead, we were treated to an unsolicited, unwanted, wealth of football blather, by a crew of blatherskites.
