How we got where we are

Every final on a NICS check should at least be reported to and given at least a cursory investigation by local law enforcement.

I believe that they only go after you with the full force of the law if they can ruin your life.

I met a man who failed a NICS check. He had no idea that he was prohibited. It turned out that it was due to an indiscretion from when he was a young man in the early 60s. He went to court, pleaded guilty, and was given probation or a suspended sentence. The crime didn't keep him from being drafted and going to VietNam. Failing the NICS check got him visited by ATF and investigated by guys with badges going and talking to his neighbors and employer.

A really bad guy gets a pass.

Jim and I looked at each other with what I am sure was a “WTF” expression. But the reality was this 20 year old kid thought that just holding a gun would make someone evil or aggressive.

Years ago, I knew a young woman whose parents, both college professors, believed that the mere presence of a firearm would attract violence. This was a problem because she was dating a cop who carried on and off duty.

We don’t need school counselors as they don’t boost test scores so let’s get rid of them! What a great idea! What could possibly go wrong!

My experience has been that school counselors do less than squat. My high school counselor did less than squat. My kids' counselors did even less. Get rid of them and spend the money on armed security.

Shooting at a cop or anyone else should be attempted murder in my book.

Of course it should, that’s the problem. Heck, this animal should have been shipped up the river for a decade and a half just on the weapons charge, plus should have got time for armed robbery, PLUS attempted murder of 2 offices by shooting at them. He shouldn’t have seen daylight outside again for decades. Laws are meaningless unless they’re enforced.

I didn't own a firearm until the just after my 29th Birthday when I started hearing increasing stories on the news of violent crimes in my area... Shootings, Home Invasions, and worse... Then I had a deranged roommate threaten to decapitate me after an argument, which I took seriously because he had once pulled a knife on me for the same reason after school when we were teens. Of course, he got kicked out after that, but I worried that he'd come back looking for revenge, so I bought a pistol and began carrying it.
Fortunately, he never did come looking for revenge, in fact I found out later that he was on drugs at the time and seemingly had no recollection of it.

Before then, I never felt the need to carry a firearm, although I had considered getting a shotgun for Home Defense, and the only knife I ever carried was a clone of a Swiss Army Knife. I'd been in a few fights in my youth, but nothing serious, just your typical schoolyard scraps, the worst I ever got from one was a broken nose.

Frankly though, if I had to do it all over again, then I'd have gotten myself a gun in my early 20s, just because I believe it's important to exercise our Second Amendment rights, and firearms were much cheaper before The Great Recession.

The really bad part....

We ain't seen nothin yet....
The worst is yet to come.

Way down the road we will all look back at today and talk about how much we miss the "good old days".

As sorry as things seem to us now, we are living in a time that will seem good.....ya know, as things worsen.

It's been like that since I first heard tell by my great grandfather.

@Echo40 it makes me feel less bad that I didn't own a gun until I was 32 a little over 3 years ago. I grew up without guns, the only thing we had was paintball guns as teenagers.

Like you, as I saw the World getting more crazy I had to arm up and train, especially with a young family now.

While I am happy I have, I think situational awareness and common sense go a long way. I am currently looking at my options to move my girls to a nicer area, while I know nowhere is perfect, there is no denying that some areas are safer than others. Living in a good area with good schools is almost as important to defense as EDC IMO. My Dad went his whole life without carrying and was fine due to good situational awareness and wise decisions on where we lived/visited.

When a measurable portion of our population gets their "news" from social media and Saturday Night Live, half the population isn't conversant in our primary language, and the invaders have no interest in assimilation into American norms, we are in deep, deep trouble.

I don't know, the traditional media is just as dubious as many online sources. I would not write off the next generation yet, either. Sure they have their quirks as we all did, but as an educator I can assure you they are every bit as capable as my generation was, if not, more so in some ways. The mass migration is more of the problem than them or where people get their news from. I wholeheartedly agree with you on that.

FWIW, there NEEDS to be Institutions for the mentally ill PERIOD. Be it like a prison or a Prison Farm. Society has Digressed to our current state of lame judges that are politically connected that were attorneys for years in the jurisdiction. Way to many lawyers, many wanting to “ Make a Name for themselves”.
Public ignorance or apathy due to Over Interests in Sports and other hobbies to the point that many do not know their elected officials from neighborhood, city/ town, county, state and national level.
They receive All news from certain tv and internet sources.
The Church as it was is gone from most lives. Once a source for personal strength based on ones faith that showed in their family. Father, Mother and children as a Family Unit. This affected the community from neighborhoods to town/ city, county, state and even National levels.
Why do you think there is Prayer before meetings????????
Sadly I seriously Doubt this country will ever return to the Values we were founded on.
