Is it possible to put a humpback hammer in a newer (pre-MIM) gun? I have two of these hammers but I have no idea what guns they came out of. I was thinking about putting one in a Mountain Gun, if it fits. Has anybody ever done this?

If the hammer is a M242/M296 Humpback that would be an L Frame Centennial Hammer..
I'm not sure but would bet that it would fit a M586/M686/M296..

if your terminology is correct you are talking about a very old hammer . the lockwork has changed many times since the old guns. see a gunsmith.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought the humpback hammer is the one with the spur closer to the top, as in my old .38 M&P.

A Centennial does not have a hammer spur, does it?

No a 242/296 Humpback does not have an exposed hammer.. There a L Frame Centennial..
That's what I thought you meant.. SORRY!!
I suppose if someone had a 242 or 296 L Frame hammer they could use it in thier later L frame with frame mounted firing pin..
