I have a model 60 - 2 1/8 model for carry. I am of larger frame, not fat but athletic type.

I generally have two dress styles. Non work days I guess the best way to explain would be athletic type basketball shorts and athletic large T-shirt. Don't tuck shirt in.

I think it would be easy to conceal just don't know what brand/type holster or where to conceal it.

The shirts are big enough not to leave a print. I think it would leave a print if I were to wear it on my side. I don't think side carry would work.

My instructor suggests a fanny pack but I don't want to hurt his feelings or anyone else's who uses one but I will not wear that.

So that takes care of non work days.

Whenever I go out for a nice dinner or work I always where slacks with a business type shirt tucked in most of the time. On a rare occasion I will leave my dress shirt tucked out wearing a pair of jeans.

My thought on dressing up would be an ankle holster????? Not sure.

So brand of holster and where? To boil it down no fanny pack on non work days also no side carry. Work days or going out on the town. Slacks with dress shirt tucked in.

Sorry for the boring email. If you took the time to read it. I appreciate it. If you have suggestions of brand of holster I would appreciate it even more. Thanks.

Your post suggests you want/need an IWB. Galco UDC158 or Active Pro Gear 11-42 IWB holsters work just fine for me. Can work w/ a shirt tucked around them very easily.

Don't know what you will use with athletic shorts...you will need a belt (or really tight shorts) for any waistband holster with the weight of a M60.

You might consider an OWB holster for days when you wear your shirt untucked.

Be safe.

A pocket holster for tucked-in days can be very handy IF you spend much of your time standing up. If you've got the right sort of body a shoulder holster is not unreasonable either if you spend a lot of time sitting, i.e. in a car.

Thanks for the info Big D and Robertrwalsh. Robert could you give me the names/brand or model number for the holsters you are speaking of? The pocket holster for tucked in days.

My build is very broad shoulders I would like to look at a shoulder holster. Unless broad shoulders would not make it possible?

Thanks.

Please forgive my ignorance on this subject. I am new and learning. Thanks

I wear sweat pants a lot and found the Smart Carry holster to be excellent for this type of carry with elastic waistband pants or shorts. Work nice and made in the U.S.A.

For a 60 I'd go with pocket carry with a soft pocket holster like a Mika. Not a hard horsehide type. Maybe even bob the hammer.

My vote is for an ankle holster for the J frame. There are a lot of people that carry them in pocket holsters. However this isn't for me. I'm also large frame, 6'5" 250#. I mostly wear jeans, trying to fit a J frame into jeans pockets with my Mitchell Leatherworks pocket holster isn't going to work. It's just too big. In a jacket pocket is another story, but still don't like the weight balance in a jacket pocket.

Ankle holsters allow you to dress pretty much however you want save for shorts. I carry a 60 in a Galco Ankle Glove, but many forum members prefer the Renegade. I haven't tried this holster but there are some more knowledgable people than I on here that will endorse it.

Cheers,
Sam

WhenI wear T-Shirt I buy one size in my case an XXl and wear it out I carry with elastic band running shorts using a Galco Bell band, I think they call it an underwrap. I can carry any thing from a 342Ti to a Taurus pt745 (not recommended)
even my Sig 220C3 fits in it but I only have 70 rounds thru it so far and I won't carry an auto till I've run 200 rounds thru it without malfunctions. I don't count operator errors like chambering a round decocking removing mag installing another round and screwing up and not seating mag correctly. Oops failure to feed.

I find that the Workman style holsters work very well with a tucked-in shirt. I know that Mitch Rosen makes one but I have a faint memory of somebody else also advertising it.

I agree with GatorFarmer's suggestion of the Kramer holster shirt. I've got one, tried it, and it's okay, but it has very limited applications for me (I use front pocket carry almost exclusively). One holster that may work for you is by Ken Null. He makes a very unusual, but effective shoulder holster, the SMZ,that's made out of plastic and is great for hot and humid environments. It carries the piece under your shoulder with the muzzle up in front of your non-firing shoulder. This puts the largest mass of the pistol under your arm and into your armpit. The draw and release is very unusual and takes some practice, but once mastered can be very fast. I've spoken with Mr. Null on the phone and he is a very nice, courteous, and professional gentleman. In the summer, I have worn the holster on top of a T-shirt, and then used an unbuttoned and untucked short sleeve shirt as a cover garment with good success. Here's the link for Ken Null:

Best of luck,

I'm a CHL instructor, and I've carried daily for many years. First advice I'd have is dress to the gun, rather than gunning to the dress. Second, for a tuckable, take a look at K&D Holsters, or, get something like a Brommeland Max-Con V or Sparks VM-II and wear a sportcoat. (As in dressing to the gun.) I can conceal a full size 1911 under an untucked sweatshirt, tee shirt or sweater with the Max-Con V.

For an ankle rig, Renegade. I've tried almost every other brand of ankle rig, some at over twice the price of Renegade, and none work as well for me. I often carry a Colt Magnum Carry in a Renegade, and sometimes even a Detonics Mk-VII, although the Detonics is on the ragged edge of being too big and heavy.

I find a steel J-frame to be a tad heavy for pocket carry, but if you don't, the suggestions above about Mika holsters are good. When I wear sweats, I carry a 340PD in a pocket. I have a Null SMZ, also, and I'd echo Dave's comments about Ken Null.

If by "side carry" you mean on your hip, I would not dismiss it out of hand. I was surprised to find that with a good IWB holster (I have a CrossBreed) I got better concealment on my hip (just a tad forward of 3'O clock) than anywhere else on my belt line. I usually wear jeans and an un-tucked polo or t-shirt. I have a CS40 but even my Ruger P89 conceals very well with this setup. Most other locations on you belt line also make sitting, getting in and out of car etc, almost impossible for me.
CrossBreed has several tuckable options for your dress shirt days, though like said above a sport coat or suite jacket helps tons. Tucking makes printing much more likely not to mention making it much more difficult to draw.

The basketball shorts/sweats obviously creates some issues with waist carry, I don't do either one so.... But Im with you on the fanny pack :P

This is a very subjective and personal issue and everyone and every rig is a bit different. You have to experiment a lot to find what best works for you, and even moving your rig just an inch or 2 one way or the other can make a big difference.

Good luck

D

You need to check yourself - using your shooting hand, reach under the opposite armpit and see if you can touch the inside edge of the shoulder blade. If you can, a shoulder holster would probably work for you.

Good advice from Sain and Cowart, also. I'd add that your belt needs to be a purpose-built gun belt and fit the holster loops tightly, whether you're wearing a tuckable or a more conventional IWB, or OWB, for that matter. Without a heavy, stiff belt that fits the holster loops tightly, both comfort and concealment will be difficult to impossible to attain.

Rule #1, you dress around the gun. If this requires that you modify your clothing style, then guess what, you go buy new clothes to wear even if they don't fit your personal image of yourself.

Days off for me = polo shirts & jeans. Brigade Gun Leather IWB if I'm going out. Bianchi OWB if I'm staying in or will be wearing a coat.

Outdoors activities = a pack of some sort (fanny pak, frame bag, backpack, etc) or open carry owb.

Work = slacks & dress shirt or suit. Tuckable IWB which I will either tuck or leave exposed depending on where I'm needed to be.

I would NEVER use an ankle carry holster.

I am big, no, fat! I also carried a model 60 for 30 years. In my pocket with no holster. I always thought if I am going to bother with a holster I may as well be wearing a belt gun to start with! I just cant see carrying a snub in a holster. Well, once in awhile in the boonies I do carry a 2" model 34 in a holster. But thats because of the target sights.

I carry J frame in my right front pocket. If I wear jeans I dont use a pocket holster. ON other types of pants I use a soft pocket holster.
