I'm totally new to this & would like to learn, so please bare with me, thank you.

Besides shooting targets at the range, who here actually uses their M&P on small game (squirrel) hunting?

I'm currently using an older Marlin 60 (not my gun), don't like it and I'm looking into my own. Always loved the AR ergonomics, which is why I am here. I would love to use it during hunting season, and target shooting throughout the rest of the year.

From what I've read online...it seems like this rifle can handle 50 yards with dead accuracy. I don't recall shooting a target 50 yards out in the woods yet. So I'm assuming that accuracy/distance with this gun, shouldn't be an issue in the hunting field.

A scope question. I'm willing to spend money (maybe up to $200), just not over the top dollar for just hunting/plinking usage. I love the smaller hi-tech scopes on this gun over the traditional long hunting scopes. Is there one that has the sleeker techno look that has the magnification/zoom capabilities that's needed in long range shooting?

I apologize for the noob questions, but this community has a lot of knowledge on this topic. Thanks!!

Here there isn't a season for most things I shoot like squirls, badgers, rattlers, gophers etc. Does well out to 100 150 pretty well for me with a cheap mil dot. NcStar and Pimary Arms have some good reviews on this forum, others will chime in I'm sure. Do you want a red dot? A fixed 4x maybe? Or adj. magnnification? Start there and others should have some ideass for you. Enjoy your new money pit lol. Tons of fun.

i use mine to shoot small game, works fine... the gun is a better shot then i am tho..... i can shoot a quarter easily at fifty yards if that helps you decide... i use leupold 2-7x rimfire scope... i am a bad shot tho and can prob use some patience when shooting game...

can't say i enjoy killing defenseless animals but i can help with your scope questions.. by techno i think you mean tactical, ncstar makes good cheap optics but you will read good and bad things. they offer a sight with 3-9 magnification x42mm, along with alot of other fancy features.. theres many variants all depends what you want. you'll probably find 2-3 threads about it just in the last 30 threads posted here. some have laser add-ons, others color illuminated reticles.. the line generally runs in the $80-150 range. i haven't seen any other 'tactical' looking sights that offer this kind of magnification, even trijicon stops at 4x power. I haven't held one for myself though, so i can't say if it is perfect as advertised.

It may not be as accurate as my target rifles but does it really matter when i can rip off 10 rds on target as fast as 1 rd from a target gun

this here is what I use

I picked off numerous gophers and other small varmints this summer and have been using the 15-22 for squirrels this fall. I have a BSA "tactical type" 4x30 scope that cost me $59. at Dunhams.

I was a bit skeptical about the scope but took a chance on it and it has turned out to be a good buy. It is really quite clear for a cheapy and it holds zero well. I have no trouble finding defenseless little gophers in the grass or defining squirrel heads in the trees.

Picture of my set-up:

I'm not much into squirrel hunting, but when a not-so-defenseless raccoon cleaned out half of the chickens on a Tuesday night, the 15-22 with a 7 watt LED tac-light and a mag full o' CCI were waiting for him on Wednesday night. Problem solved with 23 rounds left over.

Welcome to the forum slatetundra07. I've got an Osprey 3x9 scope that is in your price range on mine and it works well for me. I patrol my property daily and the 15-22 has helped thin the herd.

I was just going to ask you about yours...ran through some old topics here, trying to figure out what everybody is using on theirs.

Keeping a list as I go. Thanks!
