I AM moving to the Palmetto state

It's a great state for sportsmen. The upstate dove hunting used to be fantastic and thinking about squirrel and deer hunting in the swamps below Columbia brings back fond memories.-- I am from SC but I've been gone for more than 40 years now, sure would love to move back there but it isn't in the cards. New Mexico is pretty nice too. BTW a .22 with rat shot works pretty well on those bugs too. :D

What part of the state are you going to?

I hope to be able to still carve out the time to compete in IDPA during this process.

If you are going to relocate to the Upstate of SC, you can shoot three IDPA club matches a month. Anderson's (Skip-J) is the 1st Saturday of every month. Greenville's is the 2nd Sunday of every month. Spartanburg's is the 3rd Satuday of every month. All are pretty well run.

I usually make one a month without a problem.

Good luck with the move.

I really enjoy reading this stuff because my wife and I are thinking about making the move to SC also. My daughter moved to Mt. Pleasant a while back and she just had a beautiful baby girl, our first grand child. My oldest brother moved to Hilton Head last year and we might be the next to move, mostly to be closer to my daughter, the grand child and to escape this crappy State I'm in now. We have been looking inland to avoid crowded areas and to have some space to roam....

I love SC and it is #1 on my list of places to retire. I especially love the cuisine there.

My daughter took me to a boat dock where I bought the biggest shrimp I ever had, heads still on. Man they were great, and cheap. They had fresh fish and oysters....I loved it!

Best health care in the country,I have had 6 knee surgeries . 5 in CA one here in SC.unreal how much better every level of staffing is here in SC. I just had another knee replaced at Self Regional Health Care on 20 Dec , am 9 days out of surgery and walking without crutches or a cane. A far cry from any hospital in CA ever. I can pronounce every Dr.s name in the medical group.

I moved here 34 years ago from S.FL and don't regret it a bit. Like others have said if you are in the upstate you can be in the mountains in an hour or less, the beaches in about 4hours. Winters are just cold enough to get a taste. However it gets HOT in July/August but if you are from central AL you are use to that. Aside from the outdoor activities your wife will like going downtown to Falls park. Lots of restaurants and bars for every taste. The majority of the people here are friendly and normal but like everywhere there are a few bad apples. And if you need to go to a big city, Atlanta is only 2 hours away. Also 1/2 way to Atlanta and Charlotte are big outlet shopping centers that the ladies like to shop at, I am not sure how much of a bargain they get but it is popular. There are a lot worst places to live.

I live in Lexington,SC just outside Columbia. I have lived here for over twenty years and enjoy it very much. Come on down.

SC sandhills

Sounds like you are headed for the sandhills region. Lots of hunting and fishing. You may want to check out a sportsman's club for membership. Sounds like you may be headed for VC Summer, or perhaps auto plant near Greenville? Are you moving from LA or UCLA?
