I am SOOOOO buzzed right now!

I am 60 & I have been wearing hearing aids for over 20 yrs. Many makes & models; some very expensive, some less so. I recently purchased a pair of Signia Silk Primax. ($2000/pair);these are the best I have owned yet. There is no way I can function without hearing aids. (Too many years of shooting without ear protection )

Hearing aids CAN be very expensive. But I believe that there are some good quality ones that are not necessarily high priced. As I said above, I don't know what these new ones would go for but I was told that my last pair would be $7K retail. That would put them well out of my reach. What with all the blue tooth and compilot and tv adapter I wouldn't be surprised it these would be up as high as maybe $10K.

And if you were to buy them retail I don't expect you would get the free tablet. If I understand correctly The state of Texas is forcing the insurance company covering workers comp to give the free tablet along with the hearing aids. Not sure I understand everything I know about that deal or just why the hearing impaired would need a tablet but I'll take it and after I get used to it I'll probably enjoy it.

I only have trouble hearing distinct speech in a noisy, crowded room. Otherwise, I'm fine.
So Monday-Friday in middle school classrooms and Saturday behind a popular bar.
Other than those days, I don't think I need hearing aids.

If you get to making mistakes on people's drink orders that could lead to an unhappy situation. Here in Texas a thing like that could get you into real trouble. :D

This is precisely why you may need hearing aids. It isn't always an issue of volume alone. The technology available today can eliminate background noises which is what causes you to have trouble understanding what others are saying in a conversation. The technology exists to adjust your hearing aids to just what YOU need. Very custom tuned to your needs. And they can be adjusted to accomodate any changes that may occur in your hearing.

I have been getting them every 3 or 4 years for 20 years and every new pair is loaded with all sorts of new improvements in the quality of sound to features that are available. Mine even "Learn" about my exposure to back ground noise and automatically tune out the things around me on a frequent basis.

I think you'd be surprise at what is available now a days.

My wife got them about 5 years ago, I wished I never talked her into getting them, now when I say something under my breath, she hears me.:mad::mad:

You will regret that you can now hear a flea fart at 100 yards. :-D In other words--congrats on your new ears. Ill probably be joining you on having some in a few due to a bad fist fight I had with one of my brothers back in 1986. He did damage to my hearing-I gave him a broken nose. Dunno recall what the fight was all about?

What did he do, slap you side the head?

My hearing was damaged by viral meningitis - twice.

Get yourself some Phonak's...

Congrats to Walkin' Jack. I have advocated {numerous times} on this Forum for folks to get Phonak's with the full Blue Tooth capability.... Welcome to my world. After years of wearing Siemens, which are junk on a good day and they don't have many good days, I finally convinced the VA to put me into a Phonak product.

The difference is day and night. After two years my Phonak's are hands down the most reliable, effective hearing aids I have ever worn {I'm talking 20+ years here}.

I still live day to day with the ultimate irony that my mother lied to me for years....

She kept telling me I would go blind.

I love to start my day with a smile. That last line got me off to a good start today...Thanks!

What did he do, slap you side the head?

My hearing was damaged by viral meningitis - twice.

He did-and pretty hard at that. He hit my left ear harder than the right damaging something in the ear. My left ear is getting harder to get sound into it-or legible sound. My right is better-maybe by half. Anyway, after he did that, I punched him in the nose as hard as I could and broke it-not intending on breaking it-but wanting him to be taught a lesson. My dad broke it up on threats of pain to the both of us.

I got mine from the VA. They have the bluetooth and all. Getting them was one of the best things I ever done for myself. I had no idea what all I was missing. Spent the first couple weeks just listening to what I'd been missing. I had forgotten simple things like birds singing and bugs buzzing.... Plus it doesn't hurt that they give me a little check for it every month.
