I know this is a "Smith" forum and I love the 3 I own, but I went to the darkside and bought another brand, sad I know, but it gets better.

Ordered an EAA Witness .45 in stainless off Davidsons a couple weeks ago. Picked it up Friday, cleaned it, and took it to the range today.

My first .45 and I have to say I LOVE IT!!! Out of the box you can hunt whitetail deer at 100yards. I was hitting a rock about the size of a human torso regularly from standing position! I've never done that before. My son, who has better eyes than me, was hitting a milk jug at 75 yards every time round after round.

We had zero issues, and I mean zero. At one point everyone at the range had stopped and was watching my son pop that milk jug over and over offhanded. It was something to see, I'll admit.

The EAA really moved near the front of the line in my likes. So smooth, easy shooting and just perfect straight from the box. I did add two strips of Talon grip material to the north and south of the grip, but thats the only mod.

Also took my new M&P .22 today, same deal, 100% reliable not a single hickup, and was a wonderful shooter! It wont replace my Mark lll but it sure is a good 2nd in line to it. We could group CCI mini mags in quarter sized groups at 20 yards. Very nice addition to my Smith collection.

We had PERFECT weather, cloudy in the upper 60's and just beautiful on our mountian range trip. You could not have created a better day on paper. It was beautiful, we even watched a deer brouse around near the range berm, she was so use to the shooting she never even once cared we were there. Love days like today, they are what makes life worth living.

Thanks for sharing my day.

Congrats on your day. Sounds like a great time.

Only way I can top that ... I gave up a trip to the range to spend a few hours with my 2 yr old granddaughter.

How much above that milk jug did you have aim for the 75 yd shots? Just wondered. I have never shot my 45's more than 25 yds.

I like look of those EAA guns. The stainless with a nice wood grip looks really good. Granted I have never owned or even shot one but purely speaking looks.

They are great guns. I knew lots of folks who shot IPSC with them. And you don't have to hold over much, if any, at 75 yards, you should be within a couple inches of point of aim. 200 yards, different story!

It was a full milk jug. Here are the two winners of today:

They musta changed over the years; years ago I had a EAA SAA 4 3/4 inch barrel in 38-40. It was a piece of junk. The hammer came down like the crack of doom, the cylinder notches were peened in 75 rounds, no fanning, it shot so high I'd have to have filed the front sight down to 1/8 into the barrel before it was on at 25 yds. I thought I'd never get rid of the thing, but advertised it and someone who collected EAAs bought it; it was a scarce caliber and barrel length and he didn't have on in his collection. I was sure glad to get rid of that thing.
