I know where it is all going.... People are buying it up because in my opinion they think it is going to be the new "gold". I was in a store the other day to pick up a box of 40 cal. and saw that there was only a few boxes on the shelf. I made a comment to the clerk that I know and she said that a gentleman bought 1002.00 worth of ammo the day before essentially wiping them out of all calibers. She tried to get the manager to limit the sale so others could buy ammo also but he said he couldn't. I don't know about you but I don't have an extra 1000.00 lying around. I have heard from different gun owners that they are buying extra to "sell" in the future and it really p***es me off.

Why should it annoy you? That's how capitalism works. Buy low, sell high. Would you be angry at someone for buying Coca Cola stock for X amount of dollars and selling to for X+$5 to a consenting buyer? The market sets the price. Things sell for whatever someone is willing to pay for them.

If I was a Walmart manager I wouldn't limit sales either. Two reasons - one is that it is all the same to me profit wise if one person buys all the ammo or thirty people buy it. The second is that when the cases are empty, guys will come in - sometimes daily or even thrice daily - looking for more. While they're in the store anyway, they'll tend to buy beef jerky, beer, combos, smokes, what not and thus boost sales.

You may as well not worry about why or how much the other guy gets. We all feel justified in buying whatever amount we buy, and only we know how much we shoot, how much we store, how much we sell, how much we bury, and the reasons we do it. As of today ammo is still being made, shipped, and sold. There are shortages here and there, and "you can't always get what you want," when you want, where you want, for the price you want. But with a little patience and perseverance you can probably "get what you need."

The reason I am annoyed is that I am a gun owner and like to look out for other gun owners. I have plenty of ammo and if I am in line buying ammo and there are X amount of boxes left I leave some for the next guy. It is not the same as coca cola stock because I don't see any groups wanting to tax or ban coke or pepsi products. Nothing against capitialism ( I own my own business).

Sir, I feel your pain, but that's free enterprise. I'd a whole lot rather have that than "ammo rationing" or some such. Also, bear in mind that $1,000 doesn't buy very much factory ammo these days. Some of the premium stuff goes for a dollar a shot, sometimes more.

The guy probably would have been smarter to spend the same money on loading gear and components and get two to four times the ammo.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

I'll second that. A thousand bucks would buy a completely tricked-out Dillon 650XL and leave a little left over for components.

I understand where you're coming from. Profiteering sucks but it's legal.

Buy as much as your wallet and good conscience will let you. I can't imagine ammo getting any cheaper...

So if there is only one box left, do you split it up into thirds with the other two guys who came in wanting some ammo?

On a more serious note, it's not uncommon at all for me to buy a few thousand rounds at a time. We generally try to keep at least 30 boxes of each: .380, .38 spl., 9mm, .40S&W, and .45ACP on hand for our CCW classes. When we find it for the right price, we buy it up, and we don't mind taking the last box off the shelf if we have to.

If it is being used for training ccw classes that is great. I also don't care if you take the last box off the shelf either. What I am talking about is the guys that are fueling the panic by buying up huge amounts of ammo with no other purpose than to sell it for "huge" profits in the future. I have a couple of guys I know that shoot at the same range that I do with this mentality and trust me they are not well recieved at the gun store/indoor range that we go to. I also forgot to add in my orginal post that the store I was in was a Wal-Mart superstore.

It wont be very long till all the people that spent thousands of dollars on ammo are going to be like, "uh oh, nothing happened, what am I going to do with all these bullets?" There will be so much ammo for sell then that we will be able to buy it dirt cheap and I cant wait. I am only buying enough to shoot and some to carry right now and Im waiting for all the paranoia to wear off and then I will be shooting for cheap.

Nope. I'll just shoot more for a while.

Went to Wal-Mart this morning and got lucky. Found a couple of boxes of WWB 9mm value packs. There were four on the shelf and I bought two and left some for someone else. The stocker said he just put out two cases at 0600 and by 0700 they sold 16 boxes. Good luck everyone.

You were around for Y2K, too?

Went into my local Wal-Mart to check on ammo and saw an older lady checking the empty shelves also. I recognized her from somewhere but couldn't place the face until I went to the range that I was speaking about in my earlier posts. From the office in the back comes the same lady I had seen two days prior at the Wally World. Seems it is Ted's wife (the owner) and they have been buying up as much ammo as they can from anywhere they can. Lots of mark-up (40.00 for 9mm value pack WWB). Everyone is doing their part in the ammo shortage (from discount stores) as he had a lot and I mean lots of ammo. .45 UMC for 40.95/9mm WWB 39.00/Blazer Brass .45 38.95/.40 cal Blazer Brass 40.95. There is gold in them thar hills!
