I found this 586-3 4" at a local gun store and decided that HAD to rescue it!

It's in pretty good condition for a twenty year old gun. It's got a bit of rust on the trigger guard and back strap area but otherwise...the finish is nice. She locks up nice and tight, too.

Nice chatch! If i dont get this wrong, its a dull finich? if so they only made 2500 of that gun in 4" and also 2500 of the 6", i have a post lower on this side with min its a 6".

Its the original gripps too.

Mats.

Yep, it's a matte finish. I was wondering how many were made and who/why they were made different.

Massad Ayoob writes about the S&W 686 in his new magazine The Complete Book Of Handguns saying they are very accurate. He includes the 586 too. Having never shot one, but knowing Massad's reputation I'm betting it's accurate. Frank

Nice rescue!!

I have never seen one with the matte finish. Its cool to have something different!

Very Nice, the mod 586 (esp.-3)4 & 6" are our favorites. That matte finish is now on our wish list!

So, can I just go down to the "gun pound" and adopt one too?

Very nice gun. I have been thinking about adding another 686 or 586 to the family. That one sure looks nice. I hope you got a good deal.

LOL! The trick is to visit the gun pound as frequently as is possible. Hard to do around here as we have quite a few to visit!

This info is regards to Smithnut!

-Produde code 103591 - 4" bead blasted finish, blue, Hogue grips, April 1989, qty - 1969

That's lots of good info!

Very good looking gun! ... it would be even better fitted with some serious wood.

Thanks for the pics and post,

Jerry

I got to shoot it this evening. I'd forgotten just how nice the L-Frame guns shoot!
